favorite knives

Rick the groove in the blade and the texturing above it make for easy opening with a flick of the thumb. The action on this knife is incredibly smooth.

Thanks. That opening method is new to me, but with the IKBS, I can see how it would be effortless. Very clever design!

One of my favorites started out as an unknown. I had been looking at the knife for close to a year thinking about buying, but never pulling the trigger. Finally, at the end of October, I pulled that trigger. What i ended up with is one of my favorite knives!

I'm talking about a Boker Titan Defender. Cost was $400.00, but worth it now that I have it. It is not my usual large knife (4.0" blade or longer), but it is definately built like one and that is what I was going after. The blade is 3.4" long X .140" thick and made of N690BO. The liners are titanium and are .100" thick, that's the same thickness as the liners on my Strider AR! It has titanium bolsters and black G-10 handles, and weighs a little over 6 ounces. The clip is a foldover type that puts the knife down inside your pocket and unnoticable, which I like. I can't do a pic, but here is a link from knifecenter showing the knife I speak of;

Busse FBMLE- from the Busse Company Store- $697 new, but you'll have to pay more on the secondary market if you can find someone stupid or desperate enough to sell.

I bought some nice, mostly discontinued, Benchmades in the last year - Snodys, Skirmish, Rukus, etc. Nice... but still 'young' in the rotation/use arena. Some nice Bark River and even an RC-5 fixed blade. same story, I have to go with something I have had for years - and used... a Buck 110!

Oh, I am certain that they are inappropriate for some uses... and, maybe one day, I'll find one! My favorite 110 for a carry and use would likely be one of the following 'Custom Shop' specials with BG-42 blades:

My prettiest, a flaming koa scaled/teardrop Damascus bladed one, is a house-sitter. It's too pretty - and was too expensive - to use as a utility knife. In fact - in inclement weather/conditions, I revert to a basic 110 - it's 420HC blade is sufficient for nearly any application - and re-sharpens easily with my Sharpmaker. What a bargain for as little as <$30 OTD. It's been over a year since I bought a 110 - oh the withdrawal pains!

Not my photo (don't have a camera), but for me, this......

Mines a 2007, dual ti liners, reground to 17 degrees per side on a Lansky(1000 grit) and stropped.
Cuts like a laser.

The handle is what sold me on this one, but the clip point blade is just awesome

I could visit this site for a year, and see a new "favorite" every day

:)

I can honestly say I don't like Emerson knives. Ernie's a great guy, but the knives are just a little too tactical/armchair commando for my taste.

That said, I love that knife.

Get rid of the wave and make the blade a little skinnier and it would probably be in my pocket. The blade reminds me of a Buck 112 and the handle looks like something Spyderco would make.

I can imagine that with your slight modifications to the cutting edge it is a little laser.

Great looking knife.

Looks pretty comparable to the Chinook, sounds more-so once you mention your blade mods. I'd try that one on for size.

This is my new current favorite. Large Plain Sebenza Classic, S30V, Double silver lugs. Bought it used for about $300, cleaned it, shined it, added a fob.

This is probably my all time favorite, for sentimental reasons. It was my Granddads' Queen Serpentine Jack(?) from about 1960.

Wow, lotsa spydies! No surprise there. :D

My two faves are also two of my newest. The first one is a Cold Steel (Yeah, yeah, I know) San Mai Master Hunter re-handled by BRKT. Got it in a great trade with a fine gentleman.

The second is a Bradley Alias II auto that I got in another great trade with another great guy.

You have good taste my friend. I have most of those including the JYD II.

What knife is that last one in the bottom of each pic? Looks like a beast.

the only pic I have of my two favorites

I got the camillus companion government model from a friend who is not all that into knives.
he manages a trailer park and found it in an abandon trailer .

the second is a custom I did using an old sog pentagon handle and a VERY hard chunk of blade(which was a LOT of grueling stock removal) tempered by accident in a workshop fire .

the 167V is a collectors club model. my paramilitary is 164V. it just adds a little more value to a knife.

In my experience, it lowers the value, if anything (usually nothing). Collectors generally don't want writing on the blade, and the collector number doesn't add anything.

Anyway, I love my Tasman Salt. It goes with me everywhere and does all the dirty jobs I come across.

Yikes! I have so many favorites that it is hard to keep count, however I would guess that it breaks down like this -

Any Kershaw (especially the SG2 JYD II and OD-1)
Spyderco ZDP-189 Caly III
Buck 110 in BG-42
Emerson A-100

In no particular order.

Walther P22...very fun, cheap gun to plink around with...and it looks like a bigger caliber gun, so you could scare away intruders without a shot.

Burt Foster Dark Side Knife, I've had this for about a month or so and am in love with it. It doesn't show the brownish spots that look like rust in person, for some reason my camera decided to show it.

And my Balisong, Spyderco Szabofly
