Favorite manufacturer

This is such a tough question because we have such good people and products in this industry.

I apologize in advance for those I am forgetting and I will likely have to come back and edit this post several times over for things and people I forgot.

Fit, finish and overall "knice" factor, I really like Chris Reeves and Microtec.

Extreme ruggedness under every circumstance imaginable = Busse Combat and Jerry's no BS warranty.

Overall value = Buck and the great, great folk who run that company and the way they run it and the waythey treat their customers and the value they put on happy/satisfied customers.

Bang for the buck = CRK&T with their very competitively priced cool designs.

Cool designs and price = SOG with the help and friendly Ron Anderson at the ready should a customer need care.

Tactical companion folder = Emerson with Shaun and Derek just a phone call away.

Customer service: Busse, Reeve and especially the time honored CS champs at Buck. There are really some good companies in this industry that really stand behind their products better than just about any other type of product line. In my limited experience with these calls for honorable mention: Spyderco, Mission, Marbles, SOG, but definately not Shrade!

I could not pick just one favorite because it would be unfair to the others. How do you compare the design, materials, execution and attention to not only details, but excellance of a Chris Reeve knife to the sense of relationship you get when you purchase a Buck 110 for $40 or so dollars that will likely see use by your children? Then there is the extreme in extreme use of the Busse Combat line with Jerry Busse syaing, beat it more, beat it more you can't hurt them! Each of the companies I mentioned excels at something important to me as a knife comsumer - obviously. But more importantly, each and every of the companies I have mentioned throughout this post has a real live person or persons who can really be reached who really care about your being satisfied with their product and happy with their company.

We have it pretty good use knife knuts when it comes to good manufaturers.

Well, as far as companies go Benchmade is number one, I just love their balisongs and the rest of the line. For a basic folding knife I really like the few Spyderco's I have had also.

If we can include handmades also, then Dozier.

Bladerigger no.1,perrin no.2 fixed blades. Folders, sog no.1,spyderco no.2. I pretty much carry small fixed blades daily. but believe me ive no problems with sog or spyderco folders.!and carry them often.!:D

I have several that I enjoy (no particular order). Spyderco is a definite, I have owned an Endura since 1991 and it's design is just as relevant today as when I bought it. You will be hard pressed to find a company that provides a better cost vs. quality ratio than CRKT. Kershaw has to be included simply because of the Ken Onion models. I also like Gerber and Buck for models like the LST (it was the first of a new breed) and the Lightening respectively.

1st: Buck - Nobody beats a custom 110 in BG42, and nobody beats the customer service.

2nd: Benchmade - great quality control, and the Axis lock is truly lefty friendly.

3rd: Spyderco - Nice designs, and they clearly know how to make a lefty friendly knife, but tend to ignore it in the upper end. Besides, everything doesn't have to be cute, a good solid knife has it's place too.

4th: Leatherman!

I would have to say Busse. Contender's about summed it up :D

It's not just the (awesome) knives. The man and the company behind the knives are top notch :D

Camillus is also high on the list. It's very innovative and is not afraid to try new things.

Only one. That is like getting married to the knife mfg. :)

1. Folder large- Al Mar SERE 2K. Incredible action.
2. EDC folder- Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lightweight. A flat ground slicer.
3. Balisong- Benchmade of course. I would love to see the Spydie Bali.;)
4. Large fixed blade- Swamp Rat Camp Tramp! It's dam tough.
5. Medium fixed blade- Spydie Temperance. Very versitile.
5. Small fixed- Can't count the Dozier Slim Outdoorsman.
6. Kitchen- Spyderco. Inexpencive and they are Spydies.
7. Multi blade- SAK Rucksack. Usefull.
8. Auto- Microtech. Fit and Finish.
I guess we are lucky to have such great choices.
:D

Edited to add the Auto catagory and a few other things.

Right now, I'm liking Ontarios, CRKTs, and Case. Ontario's Spec-Plus knives rock, CRKT's have great designs at great prices, and Case offers so many slipjoint patterns and materials, it's hard to overlook them.

Everyone look at their 10 most recent purchases. SOG Flash I and Flash II. Kershaw Boa, Random Task,Whirlwind, Leek, Chive. BlackOut. Benchmade Nimravus.770, Emerson LaGriffe, Commander. Al Mar Eagle Talon Ultralight. It appears that I really like Kershaws and yet I'm carrying an SOG today.

Well, I seem to be attracted to Benchmades here lately because of the Axis lock; but I like Buck knives and Spydercos as well. That is a difficult question.
