Favorite manufacturer

For one-handers/tacticals: Spyderco and Benchmade.

For slip-joints: Victorinox and Wenger.

For multi-tools: Leatherman.

Good luck,
Allen.

I only carry and use fixed blades of traditional Scandinavian designs. I have and use knives from Sweden, Finland and Norway, but my favorites are Norwegian knives by Helle and Brusletto. They are all very affordable and have a rustic Viking charm that cannot be matched by plastics or whatever high tech material in vogue today. They take care of all my knife needs and serve me well. ;)

Fixed:

Strider
Mission
Randall
Marbles

Folders:

Microtech

Production, Id have to say Chris Reeve. Spectacular fit and finish, and the strongest lock out there on a folder.

Custom, thats tough, from the ones i have owned, id have to say Pease and Corbit.

Im looking forward to getting a Rob Brown fixed though.

Small folder - William Henry, I've still got my first one, which is rare for me. Fit and finish is outstanding

Medium folder - BM's with an axis lock, my 942 has gone through hell and still keeps cutting

Large folder - Buck/Micro Tech/MOD/CRK, wouldn't go out without one

Fixed Blade - Randall, what all fixed blade production knives strive to be, but usually fail

Multi tool - Victorinox, the first multi tool that I found that I actually carry, heavy duty enough to actually be useful

For sheer variety of choices, Camillus has to be in the #1 spot. They have virtually all the bases covered, traditional and tactical folders and fixed blades, custom collaborations with great makers like Ralph and Simonich, high end knives like the OVB series, or at least high end for the production realm.

I love Marbles designs for traditional hunting knives , but their quality control and inconsistent management direction keeps them from being as highly regarded as they could be. ( I'm still sore at them for changeing from 52100 to whatever the stuff they're using now is)

Spyderco has to be on any list like this, for more reasons than I care to list, but the greatest of which can be summed in two words: Sal Glesser.

I don't have one yet, but wamp Rat knives are sure looking good.

There are a lot of good knives out there.
