A simple question with maybe a not so simple answer...What is your favorite Mora and what are its most appealing characteristics to you? I've been itching to pick up a few more and thought I'd see what everyone else was already enjoying. :D

The 780 Triflex Craftsmen for me. Handle is comfortable and has just enough guard. Has a lanyard hole that other popular models like the 510, 2K and Clipper seem to be missing.

HTH,
Chris

Stainless Craftsman. I like the blade shape and handle. It's just a good tough, cheap knife. I often camp on ocean beaches, so the stainless is great. I've had one on my kayaking life jacket for years that refuses to die and I've managed not to lose.

I have a Triflex that I'm getting to like a lot. Scary sharp.

Moras are like potato chips-- you can't eat just one :D

I like the laminated #1 with the plain birch handle.. that's my fav..THe lam steel sharpens up like a scalpel. it has a through stick tang, and I like the more trad look. the wooden redhandled onels look like a Santa Clause knife to me.. after that the carbon clipper is awesome ad probably for me has the most user friendly handle.

Personally, I like the cheap ones.:p

I have to admit to a strong preference for the CS Clipper, but I wanted to get some 510s and Ben's was out of them so I opted for the SS model and it's a real gem but, after going to the trouble of sharpening it "right," I found that the existing angle was a tad too acute to stand up to copious fuzz-stick making but I have NO problem tipping it up a bit when stopping as the Scandi grind still works just fine even if it is not "pure." So, I am currently finding out which one is really my favorite. I couldn't complain about any of them but the 510s have a bit smaller handle and are .098" thick in comparison to .076". If they would make the 510 with the .098" thickness and the height of the Clipper, I would be hard-pressed to justify owning a lot of my other knives.

I just read a thread on the "other" forum regarding simply grinding the guard off the Craftsman and it yields a neat little knife, so I will be trying that soon - and Ben's has that one available in CS.

Model #1. Not too short or long. Easy to choke up on the blade. Generous handle for med/large hands.

It has it's drawbacks but for 10.00$.....

I believe this is what is called "form follows function" as discussed in another section of BF.

Enjoy your Moras!
J.

Like Chris mentioned above, the 780 Triflex is a great knife. Cheap and comfortable. I like the blade better than my 2000 because it's a bit shorter and stiffer.

I'm partial to the 510.
I like the carbon blade, and it seems to have one of the longest of the Mora tangs.
I would like the wood ones, but I don't like that the handle is smaller than the blade were they meet. Handle is comfortable and durable too.

Actually my favorite is a 510 blade that has been rehandled, but you can't buy those.;)

I know this is most likely a stupid question, but here goes anyway...

Who makes Mora knives?

Are there more than one maker or is Frost the only one?

And where are you buying them?

Probably the biggest selection of Mora style knives here in the US is at http://www.ragweedforge.com/ you will see there are quite a few manufacturers. Btw...Mora is the name of a town in Sweden that has been a center of knife making for many centuries.

My favorite is the 740-MG in carbon steel

I have a tough time picking a favorite, that's kind of like Blonds brunettes or redheads. However the 740 and Stainless clipper. I like the Carbon clipper but the stainless one has worked well and it gives me a chance to be lazy now and then and skip the maintenance.

I recently bought the 711 and although I have yet to put it through some field work, looks to be a great blade.
The rubber grip is what I prefer for winter use when the temps can get into the -30's, plus it fits my hand nicely and affords a very secure grip even when wet.

I like the carbon #2 as I have large hands and the 780, I like the handle on the craftsman series, an the extra thickness on the tri flex makes it feel a good bit more sturdy, but I only have around 8 models to compare them to ;) lol. The rubber handled ones, 711 etc are good and have a good grip, but for lots of carving the extra grip creates hot spots and blisters for me, so I prefer wood or plastic most of the time:)

I like my 521:

I wanted the longer 4 inch blade and while I know that most people don't like the hand guard I thought I might like it and figured I could always cut it off if it got in the way. I haven't done so yet. I may try some of the other models eventually, but I've been using the 521 quite a lot over the last year, and have really enjoyed it.
