And I also vote it as best use of knife in film ;)

Edit: Close second for me would be the Spyderco Harpy in Hannibal - though you dont really see the blade much at all:

The BH Tatang at the end of Modern Warfare 2. Are videogames allowed? You pull it out of your own stomach and throw it into the villain's eye to win the game. By the handle scales and pommel shape I thought at first glance that it might have been a Busse, but further research revealed otherwise.

I always really liked the design of Quincey Morris' big rinoceros head bowie knife in Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I always run into the issue of movie prop directors using god awful horrendous wall hangers and tourist models. The bowie from lemony snickets series of unfortunate events was a legitimate custom piece, absolutely beautiful, and the knives in sling blade and machete are low end working pieces that are actually fully functional and made for work.

Crap like the tourist khukuries in resident evil or the hole-punched machete in book of eli just make me feel sad for the people who made the film. They make a mockery of their characters every time they show the 420js scrap metal to the viewers.

I know that's a pretty cynical view, and I should say "aaawe, but they look so cool" - they don't. They look like they would perform horrible and anyone who uses them and believes otherwise is wrong.

We can't forget old mate Jimmy Lile now can we! The knives made for the original First Blood film were awesome!

First Blood.

That one sparked up my interest in large fixed blades. Nowadays I'm beyond the hollow-handle saw-back design but passion for big knives remains.

You know the actual feature film version of "Machete" is being made right? It's got a great cast including Deniro and Steven Segal (!).

I agree with you on most movie knives, hence my opening comment about them being over-designed and impractical.

i second slingblade, when you get a chance watch the part where he is sharpening the lawn mower blade, he pays very close attention to the edge that he is putting on it, thumb caresses and all. purchased that movie as soon as it was released for sale. one of my all time favorites!!!

excellent choice--last visible canary!!!

I know we are going for big budget Hollywood type movies here but I have to say the 2 movies that have my favorite knives are "Hoods Woods Survival Basics" by Ron Hood (The Woodsmaster). what type of knives were those again?......snicker..... and I dont mean the Randall

Come on guys you know the coolest blade is the folding Katana in the new Star Trek. How awesome would it be to have a functional full size Katana in your pocket when the SHTF?

HAK

I loved that knife from predetor! It is an Al Mar Pathfinder. Expensive these days but Shrade did a remake of it that sells for about $30
