What's your's? I have to go with the Pioneer series. I like the equal end handles. I also really like the alox scales over the plastics. They just feel much more solid and they won't break off. The whole series (Soldier included) covers just about anything you need in a multi, yet still rides comfortably in the bottom of your pocket.

I have the following:
Settler (2)...my constant EDC pocket knife
Soldier...my overall favorite multi

For me it's the silver Alox Bantam. I know it is not a typical SAK, ie: jammed full of tools, but I really like it's size and slim profile. I especially appreciate the combination can opener, screw driver, bottle opener and wire stripper blade. It is an excellent attempt at getting maximum use out of a single blade.

There really are too many to mention. I love the Pioneer series, but am a little disappointed by the fact that they don't make a version with scissors. I have a Victorinox Handyman, which is great, and a Cyber Tool 34, which is also great. I'm thinking about getting the Cyber Tool 41, which looks to be a meld of the Handyman and the Cyber Tool. I have a Victorinox Mauser that I bought way back in 1985 that's still going strong. I also really like the keychain models, of which my favorite is the Victorinox Rambler. I have other SAKs, too, but these listed are my favorites.

Well, I carry around a Farmer, but I'm starting to realize how little I use the saw...

I also like the Victorinox Soldier and the various Pioneer models for their toughness, but like Nathan said, I wish they made a Pioneer with scissors.

One of my alltime favorites is the Victorinox Super-Tinker.

Out of the Wenger line I prefer the Handyman.

Allen.

I picked up a SAK Tinker for around $5 at Target a few months ago. I've been carrying it as part of my EDC since. So far, no complaints it has held up nicely. Probably the best $5 I spent in quite some time. My other favorite will probably have to be the Rucksack which I sometimes take hiking. I like the idea of having a locking blade and saw on the Rucksack.

After getting too many weird looks from classmates (I'm in college) about one-hand openers, I've started carrying a soldier, and that seems to take care of what I need. Funny though, that the only knife I own that has a name connected to military use, or is actually fully intended for that purpose is the one people think is okay, and not scary...

Well, I'm no longer "thinking about" getting a Cyber Tool 41. I ordered one yesterday, and it should be here promptly. Yeah, it looks kinda bulky, but it has all the features of two of my faves (the Handyman and the Cyber Tool 34, for those who didn't read my earlier post). I'm psyched!

It may not be a traditional SAK, but I have a SwissBuck that I have had for years, which has held up very well. It is handy when a multi-tool is too big (i.e. fancy dress type clothing), or a big folder clipped to a pocket is not appropriate.

The nicest thing about these was the quality of the steel. The Phillips screwdeiver has seen a lot of use, but has not worn much at all.

Edited because I cannot type before having coffee.

Right now, I'd have to say my Vic Soldiers model, Explorer, and Rucksak. I've been carrying the Soldier since I bought it last spring, and it is pretty much my EDC knife anymore. No complaints at all with it! :D

The Explorer is a great pattern, with the phillips opening on the end and the magnifier. I use both on the job, repairing industrial electronics.

And I haven't had my Rucksak very long, but it is proving to be a fun knife to carry outdoors.

Honorable mention to the Rambler, I always have it with me, use it daily, and probly take it for granted. I do tend to go bonkers whenever I can't find it...

Hmmm...tough question. If I had to pick one, I would say Electrician. The Locksmith and Tinker would be close seconds.

My old Handyman has everything I really need. My WorkChamp should have come with a trailer for hauling it around :D

My faves are my red alox Pioneer and my alox Farmer. I also carry a Rucksack whenever I'm out wandering the woods. I often carry a cybertool 41 in place of my Swisstool X (which has got to be the best multi tool going). I have others that I use and enjoy, but these ones get the most pocket time...

Gotta go with the alox models....especially my red pioneer.
Another favorite is the Climber II. I figure its a heck of a alot of knife for the 8 bucks our Lowes was clearing them out at.

The old Yeoman, which is really a pared down three layer version of the Explorer plus. It's one of my EDCs and I use it everyday, for the tools, not the blade. I only wish they made it with an awl instead of that ridiculous "multi-purpose hook." :barf: The 3 layer knives fit comfortably in the pocket, but the 4 layer Explorer is a little bulky. I actually use the magnifier quite a bit ar work, rather than using the "Mr. Magoo" giant glass my partners (they're old farts) prefer.

IMHO, the small blade in the Explorer and the added can opener are pretty much useless, and don't justify the extra layer which makes the Explorer pocket "unfriendly." The old Scientest is also very good, but I really use the scissors quite a bit for nail trimming and other small tasks.

I believe that the Yeoman is still available under the Scouting branch of Victorinox. I agree that the Yeoman is better than the explorer: thinner, lighter and more useful tools.

Alas, it is untrue. There are some leftover "boyscout yeomans" floating around, but they have been totally discontinued. The "new" boyscout yeoman is actually an explorer plus. :grumpy:

marc,

i am confused because the swiss army site still lists the yeoman but somehow your statement is supported by the fact that it is difficult to find one although kniveplus indicates that it is available.

Victorinox Locksmith. i choose this one because it has a wood-saw, a steel-saw, mediium and fine grit file and the main blade and screwdriver lock. furthermore it has the usual stuff like a philips head and bottle opener,etc.........

for me it was the perfect compromise. it has all the functions i like and use most in a SAK and it's not too big/heavy either. i have owned this SAK for about 2 years now and when i now take a look at the current line-up and compare all of them, i'd still choose the Locksmith :)

choosing a SAK has proven to be one of the few ordeals i got right at the first time. this is unlikely to happen when it comes to a tactical folder though, still struggling with that and about to give up :grumpy:

Currently I like the Soldier. I like the look of it and the "basicness" of it. As far as I'm concerned, thin is better in the pocket too. I have a pile of others I don't even know the names of and probably 4 or 5 Classics in various bags and attached to pocket watches and the like.

I've been recently looking at the Ranger. It's the metal saw that has me intrigued. Does anyone have experience with this particular feature?

Thanks,

Rob
