Favorite scene from a movie.

Chris Walken/Dennis Hopper scene in True Romance.

or

Robert Shaw's "USS Indianopolis" speech in Jaws.

Very off topic, but what the hell. What's your favorite scene from any movie?

My two:

From Oldboy, one of the best fight scenes of all time.

Then of course the "Avenge me" scene in Red Dawn.

I assume you've seen the 10 minutes of non-stop bone breaking Tony Jaa vs 70 guys scene from "The Protector". Must be watched in surround sound (not You Tube) for maximum bone crunching effect.

Man, so many good ones. I will give top 3.

1: Christopher Walken in PULP FICTION: The watch scene.

2:Christian Bale in AMERICAN PSYCHO: The scene where they all compare business cards.

3: The scene at the end of Shawshank redemption where they discover the hole in Andy Deufresne's wall.

SO many more.. I will give some more later.

Hmm, how about Bruce Campbell's "Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up." Speech from Army of Darkness.

My all-time biggest "wow" over a movie scene was in "Empire of the Sun" where the Mustangs are straffing the Japanese airfield next to the prision camp. The kid is on top of a building and there is a slo-mo fly-by as the Mustang pilot waves at the kid. Spectacular scene, which must be seen on a big screen to be properly appreciated.

Blues Brothers

When Belushi does his "not my fault" speech and then kisses Carrie Fisher and drops her in the mud.

LAST OF THE MOHICANS - final fight scene Chingachgook vs. Magua; one of the most timeless, spectacular scenes of any movie I have ever seen!

NOTE: TO ANYONE WHO HASN'T SEEN THIS FILM, DON'T WATCH THIS SCENE BEFORE VIEWING THE REST OF THE FILM; YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!

Second bests that I can think of at the moment:

Saving Private Ryan: opening battle scene
Usual Suspects: end when it all comes together
Fight Club: end when it all comes together
Kill Bill: end of Kill Bill - lucy liu fight and when she dumps the french woman and bill asks something to the effect: "did you tell her that her daughter is still alive..?" Soooo good.

man, good taste gents.

+1 for True Romance scene
+1 for Empire of the Sun

what about:

apocalypto - many good scenes, notably the opening sequence & scene where the lead decides it's his jungle and he's going to kick some ass (from just before he goes under the mud)

apocalypse now - opening sequence with the choppers and the doors music and of coarse the napalm in the morning scene

300 - kick the guy in the hole scene.

too many to list but col thread !!

That Business card part cracks me up

The 13th Warrior... when Antonio Banderas is messing with the big viking swords and finds them to be unwieldy and poorly balanced, so he goes to the blacksmith to have a blade reground into this light and fast curved thing.

He proceeds to do a bunch of flashy tricks with the blade, flipping and spinning it, showing off it's perfect balance.

After he finishes, one of the Vikings says "when you die, can I give that to my daughter?"

What's funny is, that scene reminds me of you holding the KILLA Z.

That's actually why I like it so much, because I prefer fast and well balanced blades, so it's like poking a bit of fun at myself.

The scene in Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind where kiersten dunst finds the tapes of her sessions with the doctor where she's pleading with him to not go through with it. The sense of utter desolate violation was palpable in a way rarely seen on film.

That scene, bar none, takes the cake for me. there's a lot of great scenes, but the sheer emotional weight of that one moment was... unparalleled.

as far as fight movies, I've seen a lot from ong bak to fist of the white lotus, from sword of doom to ichi the killer, but none of them (including old boy) can compete with one scene from 28 weeks later. When the zombies overtake the house and the main character is forced to make a dash for the river, about 3/4 miles down a hill. Behind him 30+zombies are running after him and actively catching up.

an analogous scene from television is when the reaver ship barrels out of orbit down on top of serenty in the show Firefly. The reaver ship was running without core containment so the entire crew was being irradiated at suicide levels, and their port side was already on fire. With the hotter running engine and disregard for crew safety they were actively gaining on serenity, on a collision course to knock them out of the sky. To get away serenity Kicked the engine into hypderdrive while still in apmosphere, which sets off a kind of nuclear explosion (just as likely to kill them as the pursuing reaver ship).

Both of these instances show an enemy that is fairly rare in film and television, rare in literature as well. Both are human, but stripped of any limitation of their own safety and 100% driven to destroy whatever is in front of them. When someone doesn't care, doesn't feel when their fist breaks on your face, and they continue to punch with every last ounce of strength their body can produce - you have something truly terrifying.

honorary mention to Anton Shigur of No Country for Old Men.

I like scene in the Outlaw Josey Wales when Josey says, "Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?"
