I've enjoyed these recollections very much... This is the sixth page and if I am not mistaken I don't recall a mention of the "Duke"... Now he certainly does"nt need me to defend or stand up for him, but maybe this time I've got his back. There are to many great scenes for me to mention from his "plethora" of films , "how's that for a big word". However one of my favorites is from "True Grit" where he sits on his horse and tells "Ned Pepper" that he plans on taking him to "Ft. Smith" and see him hanged. "Ned" replies "That's bold talk from a one eyed fat man" then "Rooster Cogburn" say's "fill your hands you son of a bitch" and then charges in true "John Wayne" fashion... My favorite movie is also a "Duke" movie that I've read was maybe his favorite "The Searchers". Many great scenes and quotes from this film are memorable "That"ll be the day" was the inspiration for "Buddy Holly's" hit song... The scene where "Harry Cary Jr." was going down to get "Lucy" after he thought he had seen her, "Ethan" told him it was'nt her but a Buck in her dress, then he tells him he buried her back in the canyon in his own coat. "Ben" then asks "was she" and "John Wayne", replies in what I consider his greatest acting ever, "DON'T ASK ... LONG AS YOU LIVE DON'T" ASK"... But my all time favorite scene is the last one of the movie where the "Duke" paying tribute to his long time friend "Harry Cary", who had recently died, who's wife and son were in this film, stands in the door and puts his hand across his body as "Harry Cary" had done many times... You can see the resolution of the search and the end of the demons that had plaqued him for so many years, You can see "Ethan" go from the obsessed, tormented, driven man, to a man who was finally at peace, a changed man,... he then turns and walks away, and the door closes "Brilliant Filmmaking" Sorry, but I tear up every time I see the last scene... It's my favorite scene and also my favorite film. "God, I miss John Wayne"
