Favorite scene from a movie.

Opening scene of Brotherhood of the Wolf. The fight scene in the rain is great. Actually, all the fight scenes were great.

Some great ones mentioned.

I like the scene in Unforgiven when Clint's character is practicing with the pistol and gives and uses the shootgun.

I'm supprised nobody mentioned the scene from Aliens when Bill Paxton asks "how do I get out of this chiken@$!& outfit" Many great scene in that movie.

Another favorite speaking of Indiana Jones is the scene from Last Crusade when him and hs dad are escaping from the Zepplin.

To many to mention but one last one. The opening scene from Galdiator when the Romans are taking on the barbarians.

How did we miss the scene in Full Metal Jacket with R. Lee Ermey slagging the recruits.

"did your parents have any children that lived?" etc.

Also, the scene from Untouchables with Connery and Costner.

"that's the Chicago way!"

C’mon. You guys haven’t even warmed up.

Here are quick dozen:

1.) Pike Bishop to Mapache: “We want Angel.”

2.) The jail cell scene where Joe Pesci’s character first meets his nephew’s friend in “My Cousin Vinny”.

3.) The baptism of Michael’s godchild and simultaneous events from “The Godfather”.

4.) Keanu Reeves jumping out of the plane with no parachute in pursuit of Patrick Swayze in “Point Break”.

5.) The young Jim Craig leaving the rest of the horsemen to dive over a cliff in pursuit of the wild horse mob in “The Man From Snowy River”. Cracking his whip for emphasis was a nice touch.

6.) Gus making a fort of his horse, then holding off his pursuers and finally making the long shot on the sniper in “Lonesome Dove”.

7.) Heads-up hold ‘em scene between Matt Damon’s character and Grandma (John Malkovich) from “Rounders”.

8.) The set-up for the last fight scene in “Hard Times” with James Coburn in custody, waiting for the fighter Chaney (Charles Bronson) to show—and the fight itself. “That’s right. You haven’t won one in awhile.”

9.) Michael Madsen preparing to torture the cop in “Reservoir Dogs”.

10.) The buffalo hunt from “Dances with Wolves”.

11.) The “Can you skin grizz?” scene with Will Geer and Robert Redford from “Jeremiah Johnson”.

12.) And how many of you remember the scene around the campfire from Easy Rider? Here’s a refresher on the dialogue between George Hanson (attorney--Jack Nicholson character) and Billy (Dennis Hopper character):

George: “They’re not scared of you. They’re scared of what you represent to ‘em.”

Billy: “Hey, man…All we represent to them, man, is somebody who needs haircuts.”

George: “Oh, no. What you represent to them is freedom.”

Billy: “What the hell’s wrong with freedom, man? That’s what it’s all about.”

George: “Oh, yeah, that’s right—that’s what it’s all about, all right. But talkin’ about it and bein’ it – that’s two different things. See it’s real hard to be free when you are bought and sold in the marketplace.

“Course don’t ever tell anybody that they’re not free, cause then they gonna get real busy killin’ and maimin’ to prove to you that they are…Oh, yeah, they gonna talk to you and talk to you and talk to you about individual freedom, but they see a free individual it’s gonna scare ‘em.”

Billy: “Well…it don’t make ‘em runnin’ scared.”

George: “No. It makes ‘em dangerous.”

True Lies

Arnold & Jamie Lee

He's been drugged with truth serum
and she asks

"Have you ever killed anybody"

He says

"Ya, but they were all BAD"

"Skin that smokewagon and see what happens."

"You gonna do something, or just stand there and bleed...?"

"You tell 'em I'm comin'--and hell's comin' with me!"

"This here's a nocturne...you know--Frederich F-----g Chopin."

There's a great scene in Sleepers where Jason Patrick and Minni Driver are explaining to DeNiro's priest character what the boys experienced in the boy's facility and the camera focuses on DeNiro's face for a solid two minutes or so. Amazing ethos.

Same thing happens toward the end of Road to Perdition when Tom Hanks' character takes out Paul Newman, and the camera stays focused on Hanks the entire time he's gunning down this man who was like a father to him. Powerful stuff.

Then there's the scene in "For a Few Dollars More" (I believe) where Clint and Lee Van Cleef face off and Van Cleef outshoots him, then the next scene is the two of them sitting at a table upon which rest two holey hats, talking about a deal.

I also like the scene at the end of Ocean's Eleven when Clooney leaves prison and Pitt is waiting for him in that ridiculous shirt:

"I hope you were the groom."
"Ted Nugent called; he wants his shirt back."

5.) The young Jim Craig leaving the rest of the horsemen to dive over a cliff in pursuit of the wild horse mob in “The Man From Snowy River”. Cracking his whip for emphasis was a nice touch.
Thats another that gets me everytime I see it

So many to choose from as a life long film buff and part time critic but here are some of my favourites:

Cool Hand Luke - already referenced here - the egg eating finale and the escape scene that follow's Luke's apparent compliance. A magnificent film all round.

For Whom the Bell Tolls - Gary Cooper's final goodbye to Ingrid Bergman. Truly moving.

The Wild Bunch - that final walk to the showdown.

The Razor's Edge - where Tyrone Power dismisses Gene Teirney.

True Grit - Kim Darby's invitation to John Wayne to be be buried next to her and later Waynés horseback jump over the fence rail.

High Noon - the fickleness and hypocrisy of the church scene.

The Australian movie - Newsfront, where Bill Hunter tells Gerard Kennedy where to go with his offer in the final scene. As Australian as it gets.

So many good scenes from Aliens, the end where Bishop gets punctured always gets copied in other movies.
The Mech Ripply and Queen fight is pretty awesome.

Some of my favorite quotes.

"I say we dust off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

"In seventeen minutes this area is going to be a cloud of vapor the size of Nebraska."

Last but not least...

"Game over man! Game over!"
