Favorite sharpening method

I’ve been using this method more and more, followed up by a ceramic rod. I get screaming sharp results from this.

If an edge is obtuse, damaged, or I just can’t get the angle right I break out my Ruixin Pro (edge pro clone).

You should try reprofiling an edge with this method. It gives you a unique control in blending the shoulders out (even more so than bench stones imo). Agreed on the screaming sharp!

I’ve tried it, and been successful a few times. That Ruixin is my last resort, when I really have to hog away a lot of material for much longer than I can hold a consistent angle.

Most of the time I can get stuff to good on a fine/xtra fine diafold.

May I ask please what machine are you using?
I just saw your question this morning - my grinder is an old home made 2X72 very loosely based on the KMG original grinder, except I use a 56C direct mount motor with VFD control. The tracking adjustment is a loose copy of the Reeder design.

As I mentioned I like a fresh sharp belt for grinding for the reduced heat. By using finer grits the more aggressive grinding of sharp belts isn't an issue. I also use a mister to help keep the edge cool.

My favorite method is good ole fashioned hand sharpening on DMT diamonds. After some practice and patience, I can get my knives sharper than I need them to be.

I also have the Ruixin, with CBN and Diamond matrix stones made for the Edge Pro it works very well.
