Favorite sheath knife or gun

Apparently I need to hire the captain to model.

I'm the photographer, not the model, and Nick claimed her for his own, I don't know if he's willing to share or not :P

Whoa, whoa. The whole time I've been around these Becker forums and I havn't ran across this pic? That's a sales advertisement right there.:D

You sir, have missed out on a lot of excitement.

Leather.

What sheath?

Nice wrap, I like the colors...;):D

*edit-thanks to Cap'n A I now like black leather a Whole lot more then I did 5 minutes ago! ;)

It's not black. It's chocolate brown. I know it looks pretty dark but it really has some nice depth of color when you look at it IRL.

I'm a big fan of leather but I've been making sheaths that have both leather and kydex. I gotta say; I like the kydex retention.

That pic never gets old, nor does the one of the BK9 being modeled & held in just the right place.

Back on topic: There are pros & cons to each type of sheath. Just as with anything else. A knife can be exposed to a lot of things. Hot, cold, wet, freezing, impacts, dragging, sliding, dirt, debris, etc.. Just try to pick the right one for the job. I am even considering a few left handed ones, even though i am right handed. For those times when carrying a gun on my hip or a drop leg holster. Thats why modular sheaths appeal to me so much. Options are good & can save you some money down the road.

Kydex. Done right, it has just the right retention for a smooth release, and is very easy to return without worry of extra snaps or straps to replace.

And here i thought Flexxx was branching out...

AHA! did a lil searching...found the original thread for the NixSheath. I admire leather even more now. Still can't tell if that sheath is black or dark brown....must go check again! LMAO

I used to only like kydex. I now am finding that leather is more comfy when leaned against. I am currently prefering kydex for retention and mounting on a pack. Although when on my belt I prefer leather.

Is that a scout/dangle switch setup? I like the combination of traditional and modern elements...

Thanks!! I like that sheath too, but it takes me a while to make it. Everything by hand :)

You sir, have missed out on a lot of excitement.

Apparently I have. That's a shame. I'll have to do some digging and see if I can't see for myself. :)

OT, I can't really choose one or the other. They both have their strengths. It all depends on the knife itself and the enviroment I tend to use it in.

I'm all over the place.

My Glock 17 holster is kydex, G19 holster is leather, BK11 is in the stock sheath, BK9 is in the stock sheath and the BK2 is in a Combat Master.

For my guns: I really like the Crossbreed Supertuck. It's a hybrid of leather and kydex. I also have have an all leather holster that is nice.

For my knives: ? I don't know yet. So far I only have the stock sheaths that came with my B2 and 9. For my BK14 I have a kydex sheath but it's nothing special and if I were to design one similar there are definitely some design changes I'd make to improve it.

I'm really too cheap to spend money on multiple sheaths / holsters for the same knife or gun. I will use what I've got until it breaks, is worn out or is too much of a bother to be worth keeping. I don't have a sheath and holster drawer like some people. I only have what I use.

I use the Crossbreed Supertuck or Ramora for gun. As for knife all I have is stock, but I want a kydex sheath for Bk14, then will get another strip and patina convex with wood scales and leather sheath. I think that if it is black and stock that it belongs in kydex, if it is elegant looking it needs leather. I want a kydex sheath, but I am not sure what I want....I have never carried a fixed blade except for camping, but I want to carry my BK14, but as concealed and not get in the way at work. I am an automotive technician, so any input would be great.

The only pistol I carry is a S&W M&P9FS and I moved from a Crossbreed Supertuck to an OWB kydex holster from Crown Holsters. It is super comfortable and hugs so tight to the body that it is easily concealable if necessary. For knives I have a mix of kydex and leather sheaths and it really depends on the knife as to which I prefer. I think I tend to prefer my tacticool knives in kydex and bushcraft oriented knives in leather.
