Favorite Spyderco Gentlemens Folder

I'm going to have to go +1 for the Rookie allthough I love my Leafstorm.

Rookie is small, slim, thin, nice long blade and dull foliage green G10. OK, it's not a William Henry, but it will do as a discrete "gentlemans" pocket knife.

A gentlemans knife doesn't have to be high end or flashy.

These are some of my favorite gentlmans knives...

;)

The Kopa has a blade about 2.5" and a huge variety of scale options. The knife is small enough to fit in the pocket unobtrusively.

I have my eye on a carbon fiber model, which is on sale at $77 bucks. Pretty sweet deal for that price.

Just curious, what qualifies a knife as a gentleman's folder? I mean, alot of the choices in here mentioned don't really make sense to me....

I would imagine size and a low key appearance. IE: not a big, 'tactical' looking folder covered in skull and crossbones... :P

However something like the Centofante, which does have a bit more 'classy' look in my eyes, probably looks about the same as a Tenacious, or some tanto bladed CRKT, or any other medium sized folder, to non knife people. And I imagine that's the whole idea behind the gent's folder, no? To appease the sheeple if you have to use your knife in a setting where people might not be comfortable with these "big, scary knives" (had a girl refer to my Tenacious that way this past weekend, and asked why I would ever need to have that).

So, in my opinion, at least, all these black handled(carbon fiber, g10, whatever), 3" long leaf blade type knives are automatically out. I'd consider something with a low key "natural" type handle (wood, bone, or natural colors, etc...) with a smaller blade to fit the bill. Of course, the first thing that pops up for me is a small something like this.

Maybe I missed the mark on what a gent's folder is, entirely, though...?

What looks very classy, and gentlemanly to us, is way off mark from everyone else...

the definition of a "gentleman's folder" is in the eye of the beholder .

my definition of a gentleman's folder is a more aesthetically classy knife , one that possess as much form (sometimes more) as it does function . a gentleman's folder should intrigue the average person , not scare or intimidate . a gentleman's knife should also be easy to carry , not very heavy or cumbersome . this is just my $0.02 .

I would have to agree with both of you, Goodeyesniper and Jimnolimit.

I think of a gentlemans folder being a knife light, appealing to the eye, and something that won't make people run for their life. If you were to take out a knife with aggressive serrations and Volcanic FRN then that can be "threatening" whereas carbon fiber, bone, or maybe some nice titanium would almost be a conversation starter.

"Whoa?! CF on a knife? I have CF on my car.." lol radical example

For me, it's also about weight. A knife that hangs too heavily on a clip or is a lump in the pocket of lightweight pants is no good, no matter how small or large it is. Though I love the Caly 3, it's way too big. The Kopa and Kiwi are much better, though they're both dense little chunks, too. The Kiwi is great when I've got a watch pocket to slip it in, but but even it can sit funny in a front pocket. Fortunately, the Kopa is great clipped in a back pocket.

I would love a lightened Kopa -- a titanium/CF little wonder with the slimmer blade stock of the Caly 3. That would get it closer to the little wonders from William Henry and the CR Mnandi (both of which I ogle).

The Dragonfly is another option that I'll probably end up with eventually.

I've always believed a gentlemen's folder had more to do with looks than size. Dress knife.

I think both. This is the best description of gents knife, which I found.
Thanks to powernoodle

It is early Spring, and you are at a social gathering on the veranda of a Victorian mansion situated on 200 acres just outside of Charleston, SC. A cool spring breeze is bringing the smell of ribs from the grill.

The estate's owner, a young widow who recently inherited a shipping fortune of almost $800M, is clearly captivated by your charm and good humor. She approaches, accompanied by her twin sister. After a shy giggle, the widow asks if you might slice a lime for her Gin and Tonic.

You:

a) remove your BK7 from an inside-the-waistband sheath, causing the widow to retract in fear and drop her Gin and Tonic; her security personnel wrestle you to the ground and remove you from the estate; or,

b) you casually remove a small, finely crafted folder hand-made of exquisite and costly materials. You expertly slice the lime with its razor edge, and place a slice in the widow's drink. Your hand casually touches hers, precipitating her to blush. After an embarrassed pause, she asks if you might accompany her and and her sister on a private walking tour of the riding stables. You accept, and begin your stroll as the sun begins to set behind the adjacent hills.

If your answer is b), you were carrying a gent's knife.

right on

I'm loving my Native IV. Flatground VG10 is just great steel.
Hasn't been out of my pocket since I got it.

lol that was a great story! loved it

This is part 2.
All credits to powernoodle.

The gentleman and the widow remain virtuous until their wedding night. After the marriage, the twin sister moves in to the guest cottage and serves as nanny to the children. The children produced by the union get totally screwed up because their mother and nanny look just alike. CBS picks it up at a reality show, and Powernoodle - as executive producer - gets rich and buys a spendy gentlemen's knife.

Its the circle of life.

right on

I do not know about "executive producer", but probably he is a writer or at least should be. :)
I hope everybody are clear now about gents knives: Kopa and Lil Persian are the best.

Where can you pick this one up for $77? This might just get me over my problem with the clip.
