Favorite Swiss Army Knife?

It's intended design is for splitting and stripping wires. I use it a lot for that. If I'm doing electrical work around the house or on the cars, it's in my pocket.

It's also great for opening boxes and cans of copenhagen. The shape of the blade allows the tip it to bite well without raising your hand too much, same as a wharncliffe. It will slice well on almost any straight draw cut.

You can even use the stripping notch for pruning work.

A wharncliffe style blade is one of the more useful IMO and the electricians blade takes it to the next level by adding the notch (although it's not pointy like most wharny's)

thanks for the explanation. I have this balde on the XLT - but I did not really know what to do with it.

also - GREAT quote about mistakes and failures!

No problem.

The owner of my company told me that quote a long time ago and I've never forgotten it. Just who he credited for saying it originally :)

At the moment I'm crazy about the Wenger Standard Issue. I must be, I've bought 4 of them. Excellent quality and as a lanyard user I need the bail.

Other models I own and like are the Huntsman, Climber, Farmer, Hunter, and Spartan.

My favorite's still the Climber. I've been thousands of miles away from home with it as my only knife and it's always got the job done. There have been times that I could have used a pliers or saw but always managed with just the Climber.

The Victorinox "Fisherman" (or should it be "Angler" to be politically correct) I have had mine since 1982 and it has never missed a fishing trip.

Borrowed from some crappy 80s movie,

As I recall, it cost around $20, and mine has never been used. As far as the Wenger vs. Victorinox issue, it's a Wenger.

I would say that Croc Dundee isnt a crappy 80's movie when compared to most other films from that decade. also, the quote is not "This is a knife", it is actually "Now Thats a knife" :D

I never get tired of seeing that one!

The Waiter Plus is very high on my list too.

My first decent knife was a Vic Swisschamp that I paid a huge (for me at the time) 50bux for at a sporting goods shop. I used that thing to fix vcrs, wire stereos, rig traps for varmits, cut tent pegs, gut rabbits and 100's of other things. I carried it everywhere 24/7 until I retired it for a multi-tool and single blade folder. Its all scarred and scratched and the handle scales look like they went to war but it's sharp, ready and waiting for the next time it's needed.

Sorry I screwed up the crappy dialog from that crappy 80s movie. Maybe it wasn't as crappy as some others made then (or before, or after, or now), but you gotta admit it was pretty crappy - cartoonish stereotype characters, bad acting, lame story, pointless ending...

My favorite SAK is the Cybertool 41. That thing has been on my belt the last eight months or so and performs as admirably as #2

#2. A close second is the Swisschamp. Tools for just about any odd job I've encountered.

Others rotated for whatever mood I'm in are the Ranger, On-Handed Trekker, Craftsman and, surprisingly, the Compact; small, versatile and great for when I don't want the bulk of those larger models.

no doubt, LOL ;) Just giving you crap :D :D

I like most of the 2 and 3 layer ones. I've been carrying a Spartan lately but also carry a Climber or Hiker.

I must be related to MacGyver w-a-a-a-y back in my ancestry because I've carried first the Vic Champion and now its successor the SwissChamp for approx. 35 years.
Fine tools for sure!

I still regularly carry the Victorinox Huntsman I saved up for when I was about 12 years old (that would be over 20 years ago now). It was my only knife for most of that time and shows a lot of wear and tear, but still works like new. It has become a sentimental keepsake as well as a useful tool, which I'll pass on some day when I have children.

I noticed that the latest version of the Huntsman is significantly larger and has an extra tool (some sort of hook).

I have many Victorinox SAKs and I like them all. Most of the time I carry a Huntsman though. It has a certain number of tools without being to thick and heavy. I also like the Soldier a lot. I carry it regularly but I really wish it also had the small blade like most other Victorinox models. Like I said I carry the Huntsman most of the time, but nowadays I carry a Huntsman plus model (after I bought a traveller set).

Hafta agree on that!

The two layer are the most versitile for the money, like a tinker, spartan, soldier, with the hiker going in the pocket for just that- hikes in the woods. Most of the time a soldier gets it done.
