Favorite ZDP-189 knife?

My favourite is one of my two ZDP knives left; the Spyderco Endura 4 full serrated. I did the wave mod and it's set up for left front pocket (or weakside) draw for me. It's a pocket chainsaw.

Backup or second place goes to my ZDP Delica in this pic; I wish it was ground thinner though for it's size... :foot::thumbdn::rolleyes:

Someday I might grab a Rockstead but I have a hard time justifying spending that much on a production knife; even one as awesome as the TEI -S DLC...

Is that the laminated zdp version? I was looking at that model and noticed it was laminated, (the one I saw). My stretch isn't laminated.

Why do they laminate it? It's not as apt to corrode as superblue, which is why I like my zdp stretch better than my superblue stretch.

Yes, the Caly3 CF is laminated. 420J2 on the outside and ZDP-189 in the middle. I've also got a few others with a full ZDP-189 blade, but the size and ergos of the Caly3 win it for me for an EDC knife.

As for the "why", only someone at Spyderco could provide an authoritative answer. My speculations... It could be cost-related, as I'd imagine a solid ZDP-189 blade probably costs more (although I don't know how much the laminating process costs). Or it could be playing to the same philosophy of cladding a very hard, more brittle steel with a softer, tougher one. Or it could be for aesthetics, providing that transition line after grinding. Or something else. Or a combination of multiple factors.

Dragonfly 2. I used to have a Caly 3 with it, but the composite blade didn't do anything for me.

I want to try (eventually) a William Henry with it.

I only have the Stretch and the Delica FRN versions in ZDP-189. Between the two, I'd say the Stretch is my favorite. I'm not normally a big fan of FRN, but Spyderco's FRN makes for a great user knife that feels great in the hand.

I've found it easiest to sharpen with a 1x42 belt sander using a leather strop belt. A few seconds and I get a buffed convex edge, which I find is ideal for ZDP-189
