It's very hard at times to pick favorites from our collections, but usually there's one or two that get a little more attention than the rest. Many times not necessarily being the most expensive, or the most appreciated by the knife community in general. It may be a piece that's from a favorite maker or friend or even your first piece. Perhaps a piece where you participated in the design or material selection.

I imagine it's also hard for makers to identify a single piece that's considered the most special out of ALL one's made. It may be a piece that has a story that goes along with it or has won an award.

Collectors, what's your favorite piece? Can be a knife that's currently in your collection or one that was previously owned.

Makers, I know this can be like picking a child you love most but let's give it a try. There's got to be one that stands out.

Even better, how about sharing a photo and/or a story that may go along with it.

We will ALL appreciate your participation.

The Topkapi Dagger. (It is in my fantasy collection)

For me when all is said and done it would have to be my Fogg sword, but there are several close contenders:

Funny, but only a few weeks ago I gave reconsideration to this piece. Only in the way I had displayed it. My earlier photos were taken 5 years ago, and looked it. Time for a newer, clearer version.

Each time I look closely at this piece I find something again I like.

Folders? I have to look and think about this....

Phillip - nice but not sure what the point of your post is. Do you collect your own work?

I might have misunderstood, but I'm pretty sure Kevin asked makers what their favorite knives that they've made, are...
And yes, I do collect my own work. All the ones that aren't good enough to sell, I keep. :foot: :D

For a Junior in Highschool....this is my favorite.

Tanguay Custom LUK. My first knife design that Scott was most helpful to make for me.

Yes Phillip, I thought it would be very interesting for makers to identify their own favorites as we often see collectors commenting on their preferred maker's knives they like the best.

Hope other makers will follow your lead. All your pieces are nice, however I particularly enjoy your damascus knives.

My Favourite is this D'Holder Natchez shown resting on a part of the Burl the handle came from.
The Western Canadian Cedar Burl had resided in my house for over 25 years before 3/4's of it became 'knives'.
In it's earlier incarnations it was a three legged side table, a clock, a 'games table' in the family room when the children were young, and, 'something in the back of a closet'.

No - he asked for the one.

That's true....

Shall I edit my post down to one?

Mine is a two bladed MOP by the deceased maker WT Fuller, I got to know him when I built his knife shop. I spent a lot of hours supervising that job, neglected other jobs running, because I liked knives and WT. He had two old fashion rocking chairs on his shop porch and I would sit with him as he hand (one) rubbed down and finished off different knives. That did it. I was addicted at that time. Part of the payment for the shop was this knife, he only made two of them. I am pleased that it was my privledge to know him and now collect his work. He never had the name like Harvey McBurnette, but they were friends and at one time worked together, before each became full time knife makers.

Peter, I guessed you would have chosen your previously owned Hancock Bowie, however didn't know you had acquired the above. I agree with you, as that piece would stand out in any collection. ;) :D :D :D

Definitely not my speed at all - nor can I think of a single piece from your fine collection that even approximates that level of bling. Guess that's what fantasies are for. ;)

My favorite is "Gold Rush" by Dellana, especially as it has a matching
pendant Dellana made for my wife........

All the best,

My Schneider integral engraved damascus fighter...

One of the first knives I dreamt of when I came to knife collecting 15 years ago was this integral fighter by Friedrich Schneider (bad scan from an old magazine !)

I couldn't afford such a knife of course. Now I can. 2 years ago I commissionned something along this lines to Fritz, before he stops making knives (he's more than 80).
