Favourite custom maker/s?

Probably a better “hard use” example, lol. Didn’t read the description thoroughly. How about 2 from maker Alex Eisenberg (RP Knives). The Tanto is a beast at 11.3 oz

Generally speaking, a custom knife is one made to the specifications of the buyer. It is different from a handmade knife. It is also different from a mid-tech knife which is also a hybrid of sorts.

Not everything already listed or which will be listed is a "custom" knife made by custom knife makers.

I have many examples of each. But fewer actual "custom" knives, by and large...which were made for me with a design which was a collaboration with the maker.

I might be biased because I own the knife but Petr at PW Custom makes a fantastic knife.
Absolutely gorgeous. What’s this called? Specs?

The industry revolves around the term “custom” knives and 99% of people know what that term means 😂

Hypothetically "a wrench"....haha.?

Knife Philosophy

Isn't All knives made by a Custom knife maker, a custom knife?

True, it wasn't spec'd out to You, or another....But,
The maker Did make it how (they) wanted.
-arent they a person too......🤣

You can custom make something to your own design. If I buy it from you, then it wasn't a custom knife made for me. It's something which I purchased which was designed and made to your specs. (It could still be a "handmade" though. Depending upon how that's defined.)

Quibble as much as you like. I've got most of the day available except for walking the dog and helping the missus. (Maybe hockey and baseball games in between.)

Yeah, that's a lot to take in, with the twist I added ... almost like "Schrodinger's knife"

Oops. Wasn’t thinking🙄

I suppose my favorite custom maker is Ken Erickson. Because he's made me a few knives based upon our mutual ideas, and for which he hand no blueprint. The late Rob Simonich was another...and like Ken, a dear friend.

I buy into that. I don't really consider myself a custom knife maker as I make my knives, to my designs. I tell folks I'm a knife maker not a custom knife maker. But ya could call me up and tell me you want a Ranchero (one of my models) with ironwood for the handle material instead of elk like that one on my website. I would do that and then ya could tell me of my sheath designs which you would prefer and any tooling or not on the sheath. Custom? I dunno. You certainly had some input on the deal. Certainly not mid tech, at least I don't think so. Handmade, certainly but I've seen that debated too. Since I use a belt grinder (several) and a drill press, buffers and other tools is it still handmade? Dunno. I mean I buy leather, I don't go out and shoot a beef and skin it and tan the hide. So do I make custom leather work. Dunno. Kinda just do what I do. I gave up worrying about it.
