Hey BF,

I'm wondering what is your favourite fidget knife? I'm one of those guys who fidgets with knives when I'm working at my desk, so I'm curious what knives you guys enjoy fidgeting with? I'm thinking of getting a benchmade or a Spydero Manix 2 just to fidget with lol.

IMHO the AXIS lock cannot be beat for this. Don't Get me wrong, I love the Manix, and the ball bearing lock is great, but it is no AXIS lock. I say pick whichever Benchmade calls to you and go for it. My personal favorite for fidgeting is the long since discontinued Mike Snody designed HK Axis. It was my first Benchmade and my first good knife, and it sits on my desk to this day for this very reason. I am known to pace as well while thinking, and I often do so with this knife in my hand.

+1 for axis locks

My adamas often is the one I'll reach for if I'm just looking to play around. It's glass-smooth to flick open, and the axis only helps this.

I'm a fan of bearing pivot button lock flippers for playing around with.
They fly open and drop closed.
Freeman 451 for one, and your homeboy Brian Tighe make some nice examples.
CRKT make some Tighe models for cheap that would probably work well for just playing around with.
There are also other button locks but make sure they're able to drop when the button is pushed. Not as much fun if there's an internal detent (Hogue X5) or an assist mechanism that requires hand repositioning when closing.
The X5 is nice and all, just not as much fun as my other bearing pivot detent-less models.

Freeman 451 BLF. If you think the Axis lock is bad for it try a good button lock. I have to be a little careful messing with it lest my fiancée murder me when we're trying to watch a movie.

Yeah the Axis is fun mainly the 940's. I enjoy flipping the Shiro Neon, Bodega and ZT0452

Good suggestions, I do like the axis lock. I do like the 940 but it is just a little a too small for me IMO. Which makes me think about the Adamas, Freek, 590 (new Presidio) or the 940 (just has such great action). But, other knives I'm also interesting in that have a smooth action opening and closing. So maybe a button lock is also on the table, or a spyderco.

Emerson Super Roadhouse. The loud TWACK when opened and the sticky lock bar are very pleasant for me.

My ZT 450. Used to be my 940 with the Axis lock, but my son scored that one from me.

Do you find the handle too small? That is what always kept me from buying it. I always thought that the handle would be too small to get a full grip on.

Benchmade 940. Blade is completely free flowing when that axis lock is pushed in. Flys open effortlessly with thumb stud flicking too. This knife does not tear up your pocket either. This is very important when constantly taking your knife in and out of pocket for mindless fidgeting entertainment.......Spyderco paramilitary is the same idea as far as how the lock works (compression) and the action..... but the knives g10 handles tear up the pocket

The handle is perfect for me on my 0450cf....but I feel very fortunate with my average size hands. The handle locks my hand in. If my hands were a little larger I would have hot spot trouble or feel cramped when gripping. For a handle this size, the option to open with thumbstuds would be great. There is not much room on the handle to make the adjusment from out of pocket to flipping the blade without thinking about it too much. The 940 is mindless and a joy to fidget and edc, Im still getting used to the 0450cf after owning it for a few weeks

If the BM940's handle is small for you the ZT0450 is a bit smaller. Great knife though.

+1 to Benchmade's axis lock because...

1. It's super fast - I doubt there's any other lock type that can be open + closed as quickly
2. Benchmade knives are ultra smooth once broken into
3. It's satisfying to move the lock up and down
4. You can do everything with one hand
5. It's ambidextrous, so I can switch to my off hand when my main hand is working

I enjoy fidgeting with larger knifes as it's a more satisfying lock and sound, so something big like the Contego is a dream come true!
