$80-$150 range...

Benchmade 14205,14200 ,or 710

Spyderco Chinook 1,2,or 3

Custom Buck 110

Kershaw 0200 or 0500

Still pick the Lahar over the 710. I have the 710 in various forms of steel over the years and all of them have developed the smallest amount of up and down blade play after using them for some time. Haven't owned the Lahar but a few months and I have to tell ya the blade is wide and sharp and I think VG10 compares very very favorably with D2 if not a bit better for edge holding and not rusting. keepem sharp

Zing is a liner lock---automatically takes it out of consideration for me.

High end hand fitted liner locks might be OK, but thin low-cost production ones make me nervous.

I owned a Lahar for a while, it's probably the best bang for the buck knife out there.

Composite JYDII:

Ok sleeping done. i am not sure about $80-$150, probably more like $80-$120. I think a grip would be a bit thick in the pocket, the 710 looks like it would carry better. While I do agree, the lahar looks solid, it just doesn't appeal to me. I don't know why, it just doesn't. The JYDII composite DOES appeal to me, but less, i think it is a big wide. Caly three, sweet but i want something with a slightly longer blade, checked the zing, it has the same lenght so zing is officially out. ENER-G II huh? Now that has my attention, tell me more about it. Is it an AO? Ie. will it get through customs? Also if someone can explain the differences of the NRG and the ENER-G II.

Kershaw ENER-G II from Kershaw's site:

A new breed of easy open knives, the Ener-G FLIPPERS designed by Lee Williams, incorporates his patented "pseunetic®" opening feature. The blade is held in the closed position until deployed by pulling on the extended tang located at the front of the spine. This action allows the blade to open quickly and easily.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Made in the USA
Steel: Sandvik 13C26 stainless-steel

Handle: Textured black G-10
Blade Length: 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm)
Closed Length: 4 3/4 in. (12.0 cm)
Overall Length: N/A
Weight: 4.9 oz.

FEATURES:
• Locking Liner
• Pocket Clip

The prototype was called the NRG, but there was some licensing issues surrounding that name, so Kershaw changed it to ENER-G. Designed by Lee Williams, they are not AO's, but have a unique flipper system. The flipper is not part of the blade. It is a separate piece that multiplies the force your finger gives you. These, with a little practice, will fire open as fast if not faster than the SpeedSafe AO's.

They come in two sizes: The II has a 3 1/2 inch hollow ground 13C26 blade, while the standard ENER-G is slightly smaller with a 2 13/16 inch blade. Same grind, same steel. These knives produced after January 1 will have Kershaw's exclusive 14C28N steel. Tip up or down, right hand.

The two models shown have been modified a bit...the black DLC coated blade and black clip belong on the black G-10 handle. I was messing around with them and decided to swap a few parts out! The all black models were a limited production run, yet still can be found at some on-line dealers and internet auction sites.

With a ball detente, I don't think you would have any problems with customs, but then again I'm not a customs agent.

These are fantastic slicers, and as I said, a little practice with the flipper system fires them extremely fast.

Lee Williams and Kershaw have also come up with another unique flipper system that will be put on the new OD-1. Expected to ship in the next week or so, the OD-1 will be a 3 1/2 inch stonewashed 14C28N blade, non AO, tip up/down right, up left (I think), frame lock with a G-10 slab on the non-lock side. It will also come with a Hinderer lock stabilizer, and be available in a smaller size.

Sweet, huh! :D

Those ENER-G's are vey sweet, do you know how much the OD-1's are going to be? I would prefer a framelock to the liner on the ENER-G (how is it btw, the liner lock of the ENER-G) and it sounds like they've gone strider style with a framelock and G-10.

MSRP is $ 79.95, so $ 49 to $ 55 street price. And I made an error in its description. The blade will be 3 inches, not 3 1/2 as I stated. Sorry.

The ENER-G II is one of my favorites. I've never had a problem with the liner lock. The interface is excellent. As for the clip, that's Lee's design. Some like it, some don't.

I like Kershaw knives, but those are some seriously ugly pocket clips.

I have the same problem with them, i will probably mod it, then coat it black to avoid it shining and drawing attention to it. SPX, hows the ENER-G's linerlock?
