Favourite folder for $100-ish

Id go with the BM 710. After buying a bunch of knives from several companies it was the folder I stuck it out with. I love everything about the knife and it is one kick butt folder. Used it for over a year and a half for all sorts of work (mainly gardening work) and it still works perfect (of course it doesnt look new but it has character now). Mine has the black coating which wasnt my first choice but I actually really like how it ages with use. Really adds character to the blade:).

I dont think you can go wrong with the 710. If you dont like it, you can basically resell it at full value. Its a bm classic for a reason. I hope this post helps ya decide:)

710. Best $106 I've ever spent on a knife. It's been my only EDC (along with a Vic Soldier) since January '06. And while I have my eye on a Paramilitary, I don't see myself giving up on the 710 anytime soon.

Oh yes, i am definatley still wanting the 710. It's between that or the ENER-G II. Ok.

710:.................................ENER-G II:
Axis lock +.........................Looks +
G-10 +..............................G-10 +
D2 + ................................warranty +
warranty?..........................corrosion resistance +
corrosion resistance -..........liner lock -

Give me more to add, also - points.

"Hey, i don't need to chime in with advice, someone else will" WRONG. Uncle sam-nuts wants YOU.....r advice.

Millie, G-10 endura, and a TOPS thunder hawke. The TOPS is one of my favorites, great blade steel, TI framelock, fits the hand really well and is extreamely light weight.

I'd add a few more columns: Price, Warranty, and Corrosion Resistance.

I'm not fussed with price, otherwise I would have already bought two ENER-G's but i can only get ONE and since it's for the next three years i dont mind spending more. I have never dealt with eithers warranty, how is benchmades? I have repeatedly heard that kershaws is fantastic. D2 has less corrosion resistence right?

Might also wanna check out Lone Wolf Harsey. Model T1 in the $80's range. The T2 can be had in the $130's range. Good luck.

It is a liner but I haven't heard any negatives. Perhaps an "owner" could chime in - I don't have one yet but a T-2 is on my list. I just can't decide between Micarta or Cocobolo. I don't want the Nylon(FRN) scales. For the T-1 I believe the only handle choices are Rosewood or Nylon

There are some reviews on youtube that also may help info ya a bit.

My favorite is the Benchmade 707 sequel.
An axis lock that is grippy but flat enough to ride easy in my front pocket.

traditional isn't my thing. The sequel looks nice, but I prefer the 710. I am going to re-edit the OP to put in the T1 instead of the ENER-G. So now it is T1 Vs 710. Also, the T1 is avaliable in G-10, not just rosewood and nylon.

I would have to go with the Cold Steel 5-inch Voyager with a half-serrated blade. I'm currently carrying a 5-inch Gunsite and like that, too. I also like the Recon One with a 4-inch blade. That's my problem, I can't settle on one knife any more than I can settle on one tie.

Peanuts,

Sorry, It is G-10 (not FRN) and Rosewood for the T-1. Thanks for the catch.

Yeah, I have a feeling they would do fine as hard use knives, I don't even know where I got the idea they wouldn't. I guess I always think of the leek, which seems slightly delicate.

Edit: I will check out the lahar though.

Edit 2: Wow. Ok, I take it back, the lahar looks like it WANTS me to beat on it. Still like the 710 though. Actually the kershaw getting my attention is the zing. That thing looks awsome. Hows the steel compared to vg-10 and d2?

I think dog of war said that the old Sandvik steel had higher wear resistance cutting rope than a Spyderco VG-10 blade with the same edge angle on both knives.

I haven't used my zing for a lot of work, but it sure performs wonderfully.

I know that there was a review online somewhere where someone gave a rainbow leek to a sheetrocker--knife took everything that guy put it through, and the coating still wasn't scratched by the time the review was posted. Leeks are just not meant for prying.

Thanks a Bunch for all the help and suggestions but I think I will go for the 710. I think thats what I really wanted from the start, but thanks again for all the help comparing different knives and giving me ideas. I helped kind of prove to myself after looking at all those great options, that I really wanted the 710. In three years, I will definatley look at kershaw right away. This thread changed my opinion of the in a good way. Of course, even though i wont be BUYING knives, i will still spend way to much of my time here, much to my familys annoyance:D " Are you looking at knives again?!?" "get off the computer, your not even doing anything, just reading about knives".

Benchmade stands behind their knives. If you have a problem they will make it right. I dont think you will regret your choice. Give us a review after some use=D

Remember to use her well
