Favourite HI product and why ??

The best HI product? The HI Forum Cantina and Stage Stop.

Everything named up above, and the wit, wisdom, knowlege, practical philosophy, heart, soul, lovingkindness and teasing of the forumites. Bill, Yangdu, John Powell, Howard Wallace, Yvsa, Blues, "the duck", Paxton and all the rest of us, even me. You're included, especially if your name isn't memtioned here. Now it's time for my medication.

Rusty,
You are right. It is the people here that have made the HI cantina such a wonderful place to come and visit. This is one of the most civil places on the BF forums. There seems to be far less unpleasentness here than anywhere else of these forums. It really does seem like family.:D Does that make me the proverbial red headed step child? :D HeHeHe

For me it's the AK. Chiruwa, and you'll see why in a few days, in a little report with pictures. I'm waiting for the development of the images.

Oh!... and I was forgotten my Kumar Karda (mine is by Sher) for cooking everyday, and I love cooking!

Actually, the best product is the hope and opportunity we are able to offer good hard working kamis back in Nepal and it's the folks who buy their stuff that makes this possible. Everytime I want to throw in the towel Yangdu reminds me of the kamis and their families and it brings up images I'd rather ignore but can't.

I've been there and have seen the desperation and hopelessness of men who simply can't find a job. I saw it here in the Great Depression of the 30's when men used to drop by Grandma's house and ask for a piece of bread or a glass of milk (we had cows visible behind the house) but I didn't really understand it then.

Think about it. If the unemployment and underemployment rate here in the US was 80% and you searched everywhere for a job and couldn't find one how would you feel? What would you do if you looked at your wife and kids, hungry, cold, in rags and had to tell them you couldn't find any work and had no way to generate a dollar. Desperation and hopelessness.

If you've never seen or been in utter despair without hope you won't understand what I'm talking about but the greatest product we offer is HOPE. And you're the guys who make this possible so everybody reach around and give yourselves a pat on the back.

End of Sunday sermon.

I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said many times. I still thank God that I stumbled on to this forum when I finally did.
There seems to be a spirit at this forum that I never found at any other spot. So, most of the time I donn't even look to the other forums. I follow a thread link posted here sometimes and have learned a lot for doing so but most of my learning I have picked up on this forum since joining. I have found that the information that I have learned here has 99+% of the time correct or close enough that a slight adjustment to the way I was trying to do what I learned finally worked.

I have seen generosity on this forum that has given me a feeling of embarressment for not being able to help when the need arose. Then a feeling of pride when I was able to help out. All in all I would not leave this forum for any reason that I can think of. My feeling is that most on this forum I wouldn't mind having at my back if the crap hit the fan.

Now, as far as blades. There are uses for each blade we all know and, I have had a slight change in my favorites a couple of times due to the way some of the blades have performed so well.

I have thought so many times in the last few months about what to take if I couldn't come back to the house. It would be very hard for me to dig a hole, grease, put in a plastic bag and bury all the khuks that I could not reasonably carry. Buried in the hope that I would be able, before I left this earth, to come back an retrieve them.

The one that I have decided to take is heavy enough to do an awful lot of hard work and light enogh to still be a good weapon. The Kumar made WW11 that I have is just such a beast. 16.5" of dynamite. The sweet spot is hard enough that the edge needs very little care to stay sharp. It is not so long that it would be inconvenient to carry on a belt. The weight I a bit more than I would have carried if I didn't have this knife but I would try to live with the 26 oz. beast. Don't take me wrong. I love all the HI Khuks that I have, and my little ones would go with me where ever I had to go, The little KK neck knife, 12" AK a good utility knife would not stay behind.

I think Sarge is right. That 16.5" knife is big enough and small enough. Kind of the best of both worlds. Kumar made mine so strong and big for the length of my neighbors don't even notice the little AK when I have both of them out and about.
That big knife work for me.:) :D

Sometimes I feel I'm consuming the hope HI carries with my greed. Undle Bill's kind words ease the feel.
My favorite among my khukuris is 12" Ghopte, my only custom made khukuri. Heaviest in its size, boldest in gracest curve line, and handiest still worth putting my life on it. So many ambivalent aspects in a hand-ful of steel, I'd call it an art. Others come really close. 16" BGRS feels lighter in hand with its superb balance. 18" GS is simply beautiful. 20" AK is THE khukuri. AK bowie is nothing but unique combination of the east and the west (it's odd, Nepal locates in the west, and the US locates in the east on my world map)

I also like my 15 inch Ghopte! It is a very different khukuri that cuts and chops better than most of my 10 or so AK's.

 Search still does not work! And what about that "jump button"? How long does it take to fix this stuff!!

We're working on them. For right now, I've disabled searches for basic members - sorry, but they are the primary slowdown for the site, so we're shutting them off temporarily. Premium, Gold & Knifemakers can still search for now.

(Note to self: Upgrade Membership)

My favorites are a draw between my M43 and my 18" GS.
I also have alot of hours using the JKM, with the proper single bevel, if you dont have one it is a MUST!

Future plans involve plans on getting a couple Kumar Kardas so that I can have one with a double bevel and one with a single.

I also really really want a Cherokee Rose, but no special orders for now and a considerable shortage of cash is kicking my butt.

THE 18" AK with horn handle, then the BAS and THE WW2 MODELS. :D ;)FORGOT to mention Bura made the 18" AK and 15" BAS, AND Durba made the 16.5" WW2 model.
