Favourite knifemaker(s)?

Tough question to answer but - Fixed blades with Damascus: Dave Lisch, Adam and Haley Desrosier, Folders: The late great Bing and Don Hanson, favorite hunters for use Mike Williams.

This is my favorite pocket knife and it’s also made by my favorite custom folder maker. (Jury is out on custom fixed blades). Bret Dowell is a great guy, does great work and is extremely consistent at it. I have a small collection of his knives but this Sowbelly Trapper is by far my favorite.

I asked that he streamlined the clip blade from the normal Bose pattern on which this knife is based, and also asked if he would leave the pins with their hammered finish. He had no qualms about it and made a fantastic knife that I carry and use regularly.

3-7/8” closed, ATS-34 steel, jigged black micarta scales.

I am partial to Bret's folders as well.

Some makers I am surprised I have not seen named yet, are among my all-time favorite makers, and also made some of my favorite knives I have ever owned (I have purchased knives from all of these fine gentlemen) . . .

Larry Fuegen
Tim Hancock
Kyle Royer
Phil Boguszewski (RIP)
Ken Steigerwalt
Matt Lerch
Bob Kramer

and

Ron Newton, In answer to the question in the OP, Ron made my favorite knife that I am ever likely to own. Ron is just in another class to me.

I would also like to echo some of the names others have mentioned (and I have owned knives made by all of these guys) . . .

Tony Bose - Undisputed King of the slipjoint
Michael Walker
Bob Loveless (RIP)
Bill Moran (RIP)
Jay Hendrickson
Steve Johnson
Charles Vestal
Jason Knight

And finally, some other makers whose work I have been privileged to handle, but never fortunate enough to own . . .

Wolfgang Loerchner
Ron Lake
Jim Schmidt (RIP)
Buster Warenski (RIP)
Emmanuel Esposito

Truly knife collectors today are fortunate to live in a golden age where there are so many outstanding makers . . . I know I missed some that are even among my favorites, so apologies to those I may have missed.

Without any question, Buster Warenski, whose knives I've collected extensively over time.

I just read Ken's post and realized I left out Ron Newton, a good friend and who I consider one of the top two or three of today's makers. I've got one Newton, a small Bowie and it's one of my favorite knives.

I always enjoy looking at the work of Reinhard Tschager

Haley and Adam 'love' DesRosiers, because know that I know them, it is even more extraordinary ...
