Favourite kukri

love all the kothimoda styles, really like lt fishers, of HI my favorite is probably the berkely dui chirra , the trisuli ghaule or or or all of them, they are all above and beyond any other knife maker because its not done with machines ( not loads of them anyway)-- but probably my favorite of all the ones I have is the Yvsa special, but i stole that from my brother so im not sure it counts as mine?

For frequency of use i have to say believe it or not. Kagas Katne. Because its in my pocket all the time and gets used at least five to ten times a day. For all around use or walk through the woods i use a 21 inch single fuller Chitlangi. And for clearing brush from the driveway and trails around the house 25" Sirupati. If I had to pick one...that would be a problem.... If you asked me this question during the winter i might say 22" Ganga Ram or 20" AK but I don't own them yet. Its about time to buy one tho:D

For its overall elegance and shape - I would have today bashpati. Though I expect my villager sirupati will get more use, I cannot help but be enamored of the geometries f the bashpati.

My favorite is usually whichever one I got most recently. Right now it's the 15" Pen Knife with walnut handle.

My favorite in terms of beauty is the Chitlangi Bowie and its big brother, the Giant Chitlangi Bowie. It's all I can do to swing the 55oz GCB even once, but anything in the path of that swing is in big trouble. Not a practical knife, but if I ever need to behead a water buffalo this will be my go-to blade.

My favorite among the smaller khukuris is a 15" 16oz Chitlangi by Lokendra. Immaculate craftsmanship and a very practical size.

My favorite among the mid-sized khukuris is an 18" 28oz Manakamana Special by Rajkumar. Perfect in every way. Truly "special."

My favorite amng the least expensive khukuris is a 16" 23oz Ugly Villager by Arjun. It's not really ugly, and it has one of the most comfortable handles of all, and great balance.

The one I would pick up first for most tasks is the Ugly Villager. It can do almost anything and I don't have to worry about marring the finish, since there is none.

I feel naked over here with my single 15" Ang Khola.. The Ang Khola fits my needs perfectly for everything but I think I may just need to grab a new khukuri here in a bit..

Favorite to look at; Bura Foxy Folly
Favorite heavy chopper; Sgt Khadka Bonecutter
Favorite all arounder; Kumar 16.5" 23oz WWII

Favorite; 17.5" chitlangi. It's my only one, but it's so lively that if pull it out of the sheath it just goes and cuts on its own.

I have never owned a Khukri before. What sort of steel is used and what is a good place to start looking for one?

Himalayan Imports is the way to go ron. Don't gamble on Khukuri-like-objects or cheaper options. I nicked a steel t-post today  and had the edge punched back into place 2 minutes after I stopped swearing because I'd voided the warranty. I've never had a knife that could cut hickory saplings like balsa, dent, and then be back to shaving sharp inside of 15 minutes before.

M43's are my favorite. I love the smooth curve more than the sharper angles of most of the others.

they really are great knives, and with practice you can roll the edge right back over after a day of work, and be ready to go again
