Favourite kukri

@ron . Khuks are hardened mainly at the belly. Thats the sweet spot and it is where you want to strike. Other parts of the knife are great for draw cutting, slicing etc. So if you make a hard chop on the recurved area or near the tip it is possible to roll an edge. BUT...You can repair it. Make sure you read some of the basic care and use of these knives in the "sticky" section if you are unfamiliar with this type of blade. You will likely will have one in your hands before you can read all the info on this forum. Enjoy!

My HI Khuks The Ak is a Monster for heavy chopping and 20" overall , The Fav is Dui Chirra 21" overall but the balance is superb! I am posting pice with a couple Asian blades for size and girth comps!IMG_4409.jpgIMG_4410.jpgIMG_4411.jpg The Yakizawa is 27" overall and Chen knife is 17"

Any issues with heat damaging the knife handle or sheath in your car in the summer?
(Planning to have a car knive too) So far I have a $1 Walmart folder. Seriously $1. However is so wobbly that all it's good for is opening packages. Anything else feels dangerous.

Ive carried my grandbaby duichirra with deer antler handle under my seat all summer. No cracks or swelling at all. Good little car knife too.

Just out of curiosity what does one do with a car knife? Is it a defense tool for places you can't have a gun. Survival tool in case you break down?

Just curious.

Well I don't spend any amount of time anywhere without a good blade within arms reach. But to answer your question its just a knife that stays in my car. You could use it to snap a seat belt if you needed to, break a window safely, repel would-be assailants, or cut up a banana when you're on the go.

I have a permanent go bag in my vehicle. I keep it with the go bag as I commute to work. I also take the same vehicle camping and it is handy to have a chopper in the car. It is a survival tool and defensive tool. My handle is wood and I have had no problems with swelling or cracking. I keep the blade oiled in petroleum jelly (odd but it works well).

Most of the time I use a little knife in my car. Removing splinters from my kids for example. They like to climb a lot.
A Kukri in the car might be hard to justify. What if a tree blocks the road and its too heavy to move? Chop it in two and there you go.
Self defense with weapons is kind of hard. The moment you realize something is wrong its mostly too late. Now if you are holding it constantly while driving you might have a chance to hurt the evil hitchhiker or the mean guy who just ripped your door open at a red light ;)

Confined space in a car will limit movement and favor short stabby weapons over big slicer and choppers.

I carry a couple big choppers in my 4x4 for trail clearing. No problems with wood in a hot car after a year.

There you go. You can use the Walmart folder to open the packages that your HI knives come in.

As far as self-defense goes, nothing large is much use inside a car. I know someone who keeps a baseball bat (along with glove and ball, to make it look less incriminating afterward), but I can't see how you can swing or even thrust very well with a bat unless you get out of the car, and that's the last thing you should do when threatened.

My advice for a self-defense implement in a car is to carry a short prybar with a good handle or a long, thick philips-head screwdriver. No need to sharpen it. You don't want to end up in court with some villain claiming that you attacked him, or that your response was disproportionate to his provocation.

I carry a 45 cal. and a Kagas Katne. Make sure the perp never makes it to court :D

Did someone say 45? That's my favorite................................

OKC Kukri, I don't have any of the HI Kukri's but they look nice, I do have a very old Blackjack Kukri.

could not agree more on the best round on earth 45 all the way, in a revolver if not a 45 i like a 41 magnum ;o

@muddog OKC makes KLO's , good knives but not khuks :D

It's not that hard to justify. I do a lot of work on the property I currently live on. A lot of clearing stuff that is too thick for a machete. The self defense is fanciful as using a knife for self defense is second best in comparison to my pistol anyway (.357 mag). Additionally I carry a ZT-0551 as my pocket knife so I have the small knife covered anyway. I think I see knives more as a tool than a weapon anyway. Obviously, YMMV.
