This may be an unpopular opinion, but I kinda think TWD franchise is about to jump the shark. I'll explain...
I was excited for FTWD because I thought it was going to tell a story that got skipped in the original series. With Rick in a coma, we only saw the spread of the disease and the unraveling of society in flashback mode. FTWD did just this, to a degree, but left me wanting more. Now we've progressed past the initial degradation of civilization and we've reached the point of "run and survive". The storyline for FTWD now mirrors the storyline for TWD with far less engaging characters. I can only see FTWD leaching viewers from TWD and both series weaker as a result. The zombie genre is fun, but its also a little worn out right now. Already the survivors in FTWD are making for a boat (see Dawn of the Dead remake, lol).
The survive vs. civilize theme of TWD can only be played out again now in FTWD and, along with all the intense personal drama, its feeling a little bit old and warmed over.
When I first heard of the FTWD show, I thought it was going to be a "one-off"; a short, brutal series depicting the unfortunate deaths of a group of unprepared civilians to a zombie apocalypse. Most people, in a theoretical zombie apocalypse, do die and I'd hoped that this show would tragically chronicle that sad fact. Unfortunately, we have yet another Saturday morning serial with human drama, intense emotions and a few zombies.
There's even a rumor that one of the characters from the Flight 462 web series will end up making their way into the FTWD series. It's just getting to be a bit too many avenues to tell the same story. Oh well, it could be worse...it could be vampires :barf:
Here's a question, perhaps somebody can answer for me. There are over 10 million people in LA County...where did they all go?
