Nice guess. All mine above are actually catalpa. Fantastic wood for carving!
 
That's one wood I haven't messed with. no reason, just haven't.:)
 
I have some Catalpa in the area, I'll have to give it a try.

Butternut.

Looks like Basswood/ Linden, but could be Butternut sap wood.


Got it right on both of mine.

Not too many people say that. I'm honored. I'm still in the hunt for a nice old S-1 Bowie, or a Hattori.

The old Sogs can be very capable field knives.



And they shave well enough,
