(I promise I wont get sensitive to any jokes posted if you guys all promise to watch. note the word "ridicule" in the article...)

Feb. 4, 2005 -- Almost 50 percent of Americans, according to recent polls, and millions of people elsewhere in the world believe that UFOs are real. For many it is a deeply held belief.

For decades there have been sightings of UFOs by millions and millions of people. It is a mystery that only science can solve, and yet the phenomenon remains largely unexamined. Most of the reporting on this subject by the mainstream media holds those who claim to have seen UFOs up to ridicule.

On Feb. 24, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" takes a fresh look at the UFO phenomenon. "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered — and a great deal not fully explained."

"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" airs Thursday, Feb. 24 from 8-10 p.m. ET on ABC. The program will be broadcast in High Definition.

This two-hour primetime special reports on the entire scope of the UFO experience — from the first famous sighting by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 to the present day. The program draws on interviews with police officers, pilots, military personnel, scientists and ordinary citizens who give extraordinary accounts of encounters with the unexplained. Also included are the voices of professional skeptics about UFOs, including scientists who are leading the search for life forms beyond Earth elsewhere in the universe.

The program explores the facts behind the enduring mystery of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and looks into the strange stories of alien abductions. Among the UFO cases presented:

Minot Air Force Base, N.D., October 1968 — Sixteen airmen on the ground and the crew of an airborne B-52 witness a massive unidentified object hovering near the base.

Phoenix, March 1997 — Hundreds witness a huge triangular craft moving slowly over the city.

St. Clair County, Ill., January 2000 — Police officers in five adjoining towns all independently report witnessing a giant craft with multiple bright lights moving silently across the sky at a very low altitude.

Today if you report a UFO to the U.S. government you will be informed that the Air Force conducted a 22-year investigation that ended in 1969 and concluded that UFOs are not a threat to national security and are of no scientific interest. But as one of the world's leading theoretical physicists says in the program, "You simply cannot dismiss the possibility that some of these UFO sightings are actually sightings from some object created by … a civilization perhaps millions of years ahead of us in technology."

"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" is produced by PJ Productions and Springs Media for ABC News. Mark Obenhaus and Tom Yellin are the executive producers.

Danny, thanks for telling us.

I don't get ABC, and won't pay the one or two bucks a month to change that, either. Peter Jennings is the guy, if I recall, who did a bit on the Atom bombs at Nagasaki and Hiroshima and concluded we should not have dropped them. His special program was roundly criticised afterwards for historical inaccuracies.

But I like aliens.

What? The aliens are attacking again? I'm headed for the roof...bolt the doors, pass out the khukris and ammo, have Yvsa fire up his rollator thing and call the Swedish Bikini Team!

There's a rumor going around the fleet is on it way back to Earth to drop off all their half human babies. They won't let their women set foot in our camp EVER AGAIN.

I said I wouldnt get sensitive to jokes, but that doesnt mean that my post is a joke. Please watch the show. (I cant get it in japan)

Danny,

Maybe some our cyber cognoscenti can tell you if it's possible to get the show over the internet. I wouldn't rule out the chances too quickly.

Thanks for the headsup!

Danny...*we* are the aliens here. This planet was devastated by meteor strike and it's dominant life forms were almost totally wiped out (only birds are left of them now).

A little bit of terraforming of the planet and gene splicing to insert us into the small mammals that had survived adjusted it to our needs when our ancestors visited the first time.

It's just our folks coming by to check up on us...

Stranger things have happened. ( you saw my wife on the video, right?)
Honestly, I am only interested in the technology and I have made great leaps in understanding recently.
I am hoping that this "official" TV show on UFO's will be the sign that disclosure is coming soon.
It's a big step for a major network, I think...

I put it on the calendar.

What needs to be examined is the govt's lack of apparent interest.

These things have appeared on radar many, many times- going 2-3,000 mph.
You really can't ignore that, nor millions of witnesses around the world.
Credible witnesses, like airline pilots, learn to deny sightings at the risk of their careers... I'm more than curious. I want to know.

Take Me Away ( - E. Bloom - A. Nova - )

Strange shapes light up the night
I've never seen 'em though I hope I might
Don't ask if they are real
The men in black, their lips are sealed
Fantasy fills my mind
To leave this place before my time
Release myself from earthly care
My dream may be your nightmare

Chorus:I turn my hopes up to the sky
I'd like to know before I die
Memories will slowly fade
I lift my eyes and say
Come on take me away
Come on take me away

Come here girl close to me
A thousand stars your eyes can see
First one we see tonight
I wish I may I wish I might

Chorus: I lift my eyes and say
Come on take me away >

What could be more appropriate than quoting drug induced rocknroll lyrics to ponder the science of visitation from space?

Visitation is very hard to prove. We'll probably have to have an alien in hand to believe it.

UFO's are mostly misunderstood objects. The small percent that might be 'real' are of interest, but I don't look to Jennings to prove or disprove this. You know, the History Channel runs UFO programs almost once a day.

My friend worked as a scientist in area 51. We used to joke with him that on his deathbed we'd ask him to tell us the truth of UFO's. Alas, I did not make it to his deathbed in time.

Semper, is Jennings the Canadian who lectures us on liberal morality or is that another news anchor?

(I can't tell them apart- I got it, you know, I got it: Republicans bad, US bad, free cheese good. Just can't tell them apart)

Yes munk...same one. One step removed from Geraldo Rivera and Jerry Springer.

Have a date with the TV that night. Might have to go up north to see it....I don't get ABC here, but one of the other channels usually has the really good ABC stuff on. Otherwise I'll go up and watch it with my dad. My daughter finds that stuff very interesting and has an obsession with aliens.....actually I think she may be related to some.....but then she's a teenager, what can i say.

Danny, if you have broadband then get a bit torrent client, azureus from sourceforge.net is my favorite, and go to isohunt.com after the show airs. Within a couple of hours it might be there, after a day almost definetly. It might take a little while to download though, bittorrent is not fast unless you have a high upload speed and previously downloads to "seed" on the network.
