Has anyone had dealings with forumite Surfing Ronin. I know I'm the FNG and don't have the right to ask, but we are about to finalize a trade, and since he does not have a digital camera I would feel better about sending my knives first knowing that I'm dealing with a standup guy. Thanks for your feedback.

Why yes, yes I am. I'm not trying to step on any toes, guys. I simply asked a very basic question about a forumite who appears to have been active longer than I. He has asked me to ship my knives first and then he will ship his knives the same day he receives mine. I have no problem with that whatsoever. He just doesn't have access to a digital camera, so I will not be able to see the knives until they have arrived. It seemed the natural thing to do was ask for feedback from this community so I could go forward without reservations. Thanks again for your time and feedback.

Hey there is nothing wrong with inquiring whether your new or an ole forum member.I was nervous with my first transactions when I was a newbie.I'm sure you will be hearing feedback shortly to your question.I did a search and found one thread stating how smooth and wonderful the transaction went with surfin ronin,I'm sure you'll be in good hands as far as I can see.Good Luck,Ralph

Found some more threads related to dealings with Surfing Ronin, all are good dealings with this gentleman.Take care,Ralph

Are you a standup guy? He should be the one asking about you.IMO

Surfing Ronin has requested knives to be sent to him first, rather than a simulataneous trade as is usually the custom around here. That is certainly his perogative but I don't blame Nimitz for asking about him as he is the one taking the "risk".

Trades are done in a simultaneous manner. You both are to send your stuff at the same time. For him to ask anything else raises a question in my mind.

When dealing on these forums I look at a persons profile.I like to see a little info about the guy.Look at my profile. You almost know me from it.If I like it the knife goes out immediatly.I like to see one with a little info and not a "hotmail" address. Also when I get the address from the person,I do not like PO boxes.Yes I know sometimes it has to be.Then I do a search and if it comes up with decent posts and not a bunch of #ullshit all is well.
I've also done a couple deals with members that I would have expected more of.I guess it was not to be.Just my .02

My dealings with him went fine, but it wasn't a trade.

I've always done what Danbo said, trading knives/money at the same time, and had good luck up until Simon ripped me off for $200.

There seems to be a rash of questionable deals happening. I don't know what the answer is - it's a tough question if you're trading with another individual rather than a company and using a credit card that has some protection.

Digital cameras and reputation go a long way.

:)

Nimitz68,
I am glad you are inquiring about me, makes me think you are more of a "stand-up" kind of guy.

As far as the "custom" of simultaneoulsy sending knives, Nimitz, you are a FNG around here (by no means am I an OG) and with the value of the knives we are trading, I wasn't going to become a "victim" of custom.

There are several people on this forum that I would do this on the drop of hat (Marklee, Kevronicus, guys on the Strider, Emerson, and Busse forums).

I don't have a digital camera and pics, although nice, don't really guarantee anything.

I believe that a man is only as good as his word and actions.

Nimitz68, you will be pleased with our trade.

:)

Indeed!!!!!!!!

While simultaneous trades are the custom here, the mechanisms of any trade are negotiable between the parties. There are no "laws" requiring it. Both parties must be comfortable with the transaction.

Hey I have done a deal with the Ronin, he is a stand up guy, I wouldn't worry about it. And as far as him asking for your knives up front its understandable, you are very new here, and he was just being cautious too. I really wouldn't worry, trade with the Ronin, you'll be happy you did.

I'll vouch for Surfin Ronin as well. We did a deal for a Strider a while back (him buying from me), and it went perfectly! No complaints. He's a stand-up guy for sure.

Actually Robert is the one you should watch out for. He stole a Patton Merlin off me.....:D :D :D

It's really easy to get good feedback on GB&U. Just sell these guys knives at extremely low prices, send them next day or two day air, and everyone becomes your friend!!! It really hurts when you hear them laughing through their emails at what a steal they got.

well i can only speak from my own experience, having done over a dozen trades, sales, etc w/other forumites, w/ALMOST no probs .....

point A - i dont see where either party is at the most risk, buyer/seller have about the same risks, imho - its just as easy to say 'sure i'll buy that, send it, i'll send $$ now, and dont do it, or say ill send $$ when i get it, and dont send $$' as it is to say 'i have a emerson CQC6 in LNIB condition, want $750, send $ first.....and then pocket the $$ and heck ya prob never HAD a CQC6' to begin with lol - but i dont see were anyone is at any greater risk of rip off, could go either way.....

point B - look at feedback, and imho more importantly, the # of posts, just cuz no neg feedback doent mean a thing if he has 10 posts, now if they have 250+(or 100, etc) posts imho they are pretty active forumites, and less likely to rip ya off, be dishonest, etc especially if no neg feedback imho...........

point C - imho anytime ya do biz on the net ya are open to scams/ripoffs/etc, but i feel better doing it w/some people i 'know' at least thru BF

and while i havent done that many trades, have done a few, 2 for almost $500 each, and i was nervous sending off that check to an individual, having to wait for the knife, etc , what condition is it in, and even if ya have a deal to look/appraise/send back, i would still be hesitant, at least if the knife is in 90 vs 98% condition, ya still have something, while if sent back, again ya gotta trust the integrity of the other guy, and thats hard to do on the net, untill ya get to kinda know certain people

another reason i like jack alvarez aka jaxurman, have done a couple w/him, and all went well, knives in condition described, but this certainly doesnt mean that there arent many many other good folks at BF to deal with, a shame a few buttholes are making everyone nervous i tell you.................

ya just gotta be carefull on the net, on the old turf.com site, dedicated to rolex watch enthusiasts, a guy got burned for about 3K USD on a fake rolex daytona, bought from overseas (indonesia??) and ended up w/nothing, nada but a $50 fake rolex datejust, not even a daytona

personally i would never do biz w/anyone overseas, no offense meant to anyone, but i just wont do it, too little recourse if things go bad, heck ya cant do much (not easily anyway) in the good old US of A - w/out some luck, youre screwed if things go bad on ya out of the country

just my .02 worth

Thank you to all who responded with feedback and suggestions. I shipped my knives this afternoon to Ronin, and am anxiously awaiting his. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

I saw this thread late but I thought I'd chime in.

Surfing Ronin is definately a stand up guy and I don't think you have anything to worry about.

FWIW I don't have a problem with Ronin setting the terms of the transaction or you requesting info here :)
