Feedback & opinion on forum edicate and time stamps

I am on the fence..
BUT I feel in the 10 plus years Ive been here
""I'll take it"" or a PM
RULZ in my head are
WHOM ever committed FIRST...
PM or in thread
I try to do my best to STATE CLEARLY--""TIME STAMP RULES""
Ask questions.
Sold as you see it. etc...
ITS not sold until Im paid and I ship..
I PREFER in thread THEN everyone sees it
AND IT is somewhat of an UNSPOKEN Rule
TIME STAMP will trump everything..
I guess it is upon seller---trade??
Opinion is all I have here in this..

Possibly, the main reason I ask for an email and a post is with the post I can see what type of member you are here. Being that this is GBU I am sure you a have noticed there is a fair amount of DBs out there. To avoid any issues I would prefer not to sell to someone who has a negative thread here.

I can understand that as it applies to emails; but, unless I am mistaken, only paid members can send PMs (I don't remember at what level that option is unlocked)...and, when viewing a PM, the membership level is visible.

Most of this boils down to what people have grown accustomed to...where I advertise (for the other hobby) more is tolerated in terms of posting in ads; so I close mine to avoid the nonsense. For almost 4 years, registered members were blocked from posting replies in ads...I thought that was great; but it started having a negative impact on traffic and usage, so it was reversed.
Besides, what I'm buying, and from whom, is none of anybody's business.

So far, I guess I've been lucky that nobody has pushed the post in thread "requirement" with me.

In my sales threads I state The first 'I'll take it', either here or via email/PM gets first dibs by time stamp.
So far I haven't had any complaints from the guys that only posted in the thread, but got beat out by a PM or email.
They can't bitch if the terms are clearly stated.
I used to say ITI posted in the thread only, but realized some folks like to keep it private so I began accepting ITIs via email/PM also.

While it's true a seller can sell to whomever they choose, clearly stating the terms of sale in your thread and sticking to them prevents a lot of animosity.

I subscribe to the concept that the seller can do whatever he wants and sell or not sell to whom ever he wants for whatever reason.

But to avoid any confusion I always state this in my sales threads.

"Please post “I’ll take it” in the thread and follow up with e-mail. A definitive “I’ll take it” will take precedence over inquiries or offers."

I stared doing this after a situation where a buyer was trying to negotiate a lower price going back and forth via e-mail and someone else came into the thread and said "I'll take it"

I ended up selling the knife for less then I was asking because I felt I owed it to the person I was negotiating with but could have just as easily told him I just sold it. I didn't think that would be right, so going forward I make it a point to be very clear about the terms.

This avoids any confusion or potential hard feeling's.

I decided to change my terms based on discussion here.

My most resent sales listing said- "If you want to purchase a knife, please post “I'll take it” in the thread and then contact me. An unconditional “I’ll take it” by email or PM is also acceptable. In the case of multiple committed buyers, time stamp will be the deciding factor. "

I've used both methods for purchases in the past. Sometimes I wanted to keep a transaction private and other times I didn't mind the public disclosure.

I ask for them to email me. If they contact me some other way, that is fine, but I do ask for an email so anyone can contact me.
