Bit of an unstructured rant what with the paragraph thing and that I was all class A, but good enough then I guess. For clarity, I wouldn't go as far as to call them poseurs [although I'm sure there are a couple I would find insufferable in meatspace] 'cos I think that focuses on the wrong end of the problem. The viewer is the problem not the bloke making a buck doing pop-survival shows. Similarly, look at the dick of a character Ramsay plays on Hell's Kitchen. I'm certain he'd have a problem if he were to abuse me like he does the contestants on that show. Yet in real life I suspect we'd happily have a beer and a pretty interesting conversation. Bottom line is these folks get kicked for characters they play when in actuality it is the viewer that needs a firm 12 lace hole anal injection. :)

Man you guys are so right, it's just entertainment so it is perfectly OK for the "stars" to lie and put out false, and in some cases even dangerous information. I mean after all it is just idiot city boys and posers that like these pop survival shows anyway, the real he men are out in the bush getting dirty. Just like ole shaved kitty, if these guys were to meet me face to face I bet they would have their hat in their hand and call me sir, just by looking at me they could tell I am the real deal, and if they didn't I would have to kick their ass just to prove it. Chris

These threads always amuse me, at the end of the day all these guys who have the tv shows have put in more dirt time than most of us on these forums. You just have to keep in mind that 99% of what you see in the TV shows is for entertainment.....it's what gets viewing figures.
I'd say the one I like the least is Man V's Wild but heck I'd still take that everytime over America's got talent or that Celebrity dance shite !!!

If someone really wants 100% reality then I'd say check out Ray Mears stuff but I'd still be happy to tag along with Cody, Dave, Myke or even Bear if I could keep up.........Oh yeah and I'd be more than happy to have Ruth England help keep me warm on a cold night !

What's the matter with you boy. short asked a question and each of us are providing an answer. That's the way questions and answers are meant to work. We are not discussing TV shows how we would prefer them to be but TV shows how they are. Those are the facts, deal with it. It's probably worth you noting that I am immune to your snide comments because what you have to say to me is of less value than the tramp that calls me a wanker 'cos I won't give him ten pence, so give it up already.

I really don't think these shows really teach you all that much, but they are fun to watch. My personal favorite is Man Woman Wild.

Someone gets my sarcasm and is sorting me out, boy and wanker in the same post. HAHAHAHA

I enjoy watching Dual Survival, also Man, Woman, Wild, and Survivorman. I like seeing the things they do, recognizing they don't really "teach" how to do anything, but simply demonstrate a few things that are possible. It's entertaining, not training.
Even Man v. Wild has it's moments, even if only to show what NOT to do.
It's important to remember that most of what's done on these shows is not the idea or even preference of the host(s), but stuff the producers and directors came up with from who knows where and tell the host to do on the show. It has little to do with what the hosts would do in their own training courses, let alone what they would do in a real survival situation.
I do notice that on Dual Survival that when anything important needs to be done, like make a fire, build a shelter, get water, etc., that Cody Lundin does it, while Dave Canterberry goes off wandering around "hunting", most often unproductively. Don't know why that is, perhaps it's just the way the script is written.
Of course, Ruth on MWW is easy to watch, but I can't stand her whiney voice.
I look at the negative stuff on these shows as more an indication of the gross lack of knowledge or skills of the producers/directors and other "big wigs", rather than a reflection of the ability of the hosts. Prior to his passing, Ron Hood posted on the Hoodlums forum that he knew Bear Grylls personally and respected BG's skill and ability in the woods, and admired him for finding a way to make a living using what skills he had gained. Yeah, surprised me, too.
I prefer to get to know what these folks are really like, their ability, background, accomplishments, etc. in their own right, regardless of what's on the TV shows, before forming any opinions.
Just my $.02 FWIW.

Ray probably sits back, shakes his head and laughs at them all !
