I checked the Fehrman Knives website a couple times in the last couple of months and the site is down. Are they still in business ?

Read on here the other day that they are focusing their business on some other things. Sounds like they are out of the knife making business. I know they do tool and die work as well, might be the direction they are headed.

Oh ok. Thanks. Does this means that the warranty on their knives is null in void now.

I have spoken to Eric himself at Fehrman knives on the phone, that their services and warranty will no longer be valid.

So their lifetime guarantee is no longer valid, wow ok. I guess I shouldn't have ever bought anything from them. Pretty lame. Busse it is!!! Doesn't look like they will be closing their doors anytime soon.

Bummer. I have a Last Chance, nice knife. Been debating buying a Cold Fury for years, never got around to it. Guess I waited to long.

Yea I agree . Especially at the cost of the knives. I thought the cost of the knives were that pricey partly because of the warranty.

what?! You're kidding right? If true, that is messed up on sooo many levels - pardon this potentially stupid question: is it even legal to just up and do that? I get it if a company goes out of business and can no longer cover warranty, but they're still operating and around...I'd like to think that there is some kind of consumer protection in place against this kind of thing.

Ouch. Kinda surprising pulling the warranty completely and without a warning email to their Customers... :barf:

Add me to the "I'm glad I never got around to buying one of their knives!" crowd.

Wow, I'm pretty sure they can have some legal issues voiding the warranty on knives but they're still in business.

I just saw that in April Fehrman Tool and Die was bought by some firm named The Velocity Group.

Terrible news. They made a mean knife!!!

Still have a few, wonder how this is going to hit the market.

80% of all knife makers both here on the forums and just google in general, do not offer lifetime warranty on esp. for people who baton, or cut tin cans, copper pipe,etc.. or do any semi or full destruction tests on their knives. Fehrman offered lifetime on their knives, Even if you do cut tin cans, etc.. as long as they were in business that is.

So even if they still have their cnc machines, the shop, or whatever, IMO doesnt mean they are still in the KNIFE business.. I dont think they should be held liable for broken knives at all, in this case.

I wonder if Kabar offers lifetime warranty, esp. if I was to do the Noss4 type tests on the old Camillus products? Or Cold Steel warrantying anything even now, if I was to chop cinder blocks? I know for a fact they wouldn't, cause Ive seen people trying to warranty their knives that have broken simply for batoning wood, not bricks, and both of those companies as well as others will either not warranty the knife at all, or will give the customer a bitching and a half for batoning anything. (Even tough our knife is called "Armagedon and freaking 1.4" thick doenst mean you should be batoning with it. Batoning is very strenous on the blade, bla bla bla bullcrap. If you gonna name youre knife Armageddon or make it more than 3/16"thick, OR charge more than $200 for it, then it better damn sure be able to baton at the very least wood, or your blade aint worth the money IMO)

So basically most knife companies/makers would rather prefer you not baton anything ever, or do any kinda knife "abuse".. Just cutting, etc..

Well, if you were to apply the "just cutting" stuff to Fehrman knives as well, then I am beyond sure whatever knife you bought from him, will last you for the rest of your life. Also, with those other knifemakers, I have read plenty of warranty pages, where they say, "If you snap a tip or screw up an edge pretty badly,etc.. youre on your own.. You'll either have to pay the maker to fix it, or get another maker to fix it for you" So whats the point of the warranty?

So I dont see why the same thing wouldnt apply for Fehrman too. In other words, I dont think they should be liable to warranty your knife if they are no longer in the knife business, and if you ever have a problem with your knife, it is your responsibility to get some other knife maker to fix it for you.. Thats what 80% of all knife makers, companies or not, say on their warranty.

I dont particularly like Fehrman or any company that puts Christian fundamentalist crap all over the page, or any other religion.. dont see what religion has to do with your knives.. but I have to defend him, cause Im beyond sick and tired of double standards..

You cant expect him to warranty knives if hes no longer a knife maker, but then you dont apply the same thing to other makers. I can recall several knife makers on the old "camp knife" collection page here on BF, and I see people making comments like "Too bad hes not in the knife business anymore".. and yet I havent seen anyone say the stuff you said, about "Im glad I never bought his product, cause now he cant warranty it anymore"

That is double standard.. you cant have it both ways..

You can either bitch at any knife maker that says the knife is warrantied for life, but doesnt want to cover it when it breaks (Yes, including batoning wood, etc besides grinding it with a grinder) ORRRRR you can just be the guy that thinks knives are just to be used for cutting, and if they are used for anything else, then the knife maker is not responsible for warrantying the damage..

Either way is FINE with me, but you gotta stay consistent.. You cant have it applying to one maker, but not the other. It bugs me

Are you done?

People bought those knives under the concept that no matter what happened, the warranty would be there. That is how the knives were sold. And now that has changed, so there are some understandable concerns.

It's a pretty basic concept. Doesn't have anything to do with how they use their knives or what other companies offer a lifetime warranty.

God, youre dumb as f***

But I bet if I posted those other knife makers names, Id get an infraction on here? Right? Benji boy moderator would slap me..Thats the double standard Im talking about..

and you're accusing him of being dumb. You're insulting another member and a mod in one post. Good show....let's see how those points add up.

45 total with 40 never expiring...consider yourself to be on a short leash.

EDIT: Since this is about service/warranty and not knives we're moving to Feedback.
