Fehrman Knives

if you do a search on "fehrman" here you will see much discussion on the topic - although there is some similarity, people with Busses & Fehrmans say that they are quite different.

Just to be clear, I have never worked for any other knifemaker. I've worked in my Fathers Tool & Die shop since I was 12... and been here ever since... about 20 years.

Brian, glad to hear you appreciate the versatility of our blades. Trying to make a blade that works well in a wide variety of circumstances and for diverse tasks was one of our biggest goals... and something that wasn't as simple as I thought it would be!? Anyway, after tons of design trial and error we have what you see today.

Also, with many of our customers being in the military, many in SAR, and many just skilled in woodcraft - we are responding to their feedback... you'll see some of those "tweaks" and changes out shortly!

Respectfully,
Eric Fehrman

Eric,

Did you say "tweaks" and changes? *groan* there goes my wallet complaining of an empty stomach again.
Just curious...any changes to the Peacemaker that might make me 'need' to get another?
Your blades rock. Keep up the excellent work and workmanship.

Sorry to hear about the crash Brian but happy to hear that your on the road to recovery!!!

Stay well

MedOps,

The Peace Maker isn't changing much... just a slightly more contoured handle.

Now the Peace Maker folder... thats another topic...

Thanks for the kind words!

Head injuries are tough, because you go through phases where you feel great and think you're alright and imporiving, then sudeenly you're back down with little birdies tweeting around your head. Plus, it's hard to concentrate and memory problems, etc. So, don;t be surprised if I post this again forgetting I did this time.... (just kidding) ;)

Eric, got my other computer out of storage and will upload the review and pics as soon as I can.

Best,

~B.

Youse guys are driving me nuts! Now I want a Fehrman "Last Chance".

Eric,

If you do make a folder, have you considered the compression lock that Spyderco uses? Both the integral and nested versions are very strong.

Now I'm confused. I got the Peace Maker in the mail today, and I absolutely love it. Extremely sharp and comfortable to hold. However, I ordered a satin finish PM, and I got a PM with a grey blade. The blade looks like it's been bead blasted. Is it the Fehrman's version of satin finish ?

A Peace Maker folder? Boy, that's an attractive prospect. Can you give us an idea as to price?

Let me see if I can answer a few of these questions:

Regarding the Folder...
I probably should not even have mentioned it, we are pretty early on in the development stages. We are probably 6 or 8 months away from releasing a product. So far the designs are only on paper, they look promising but we still have alot of prototypes, trial and error, and testing to go through before we release something to the public. To answer your question though, our current design calls for a frame lock. And as far as price, I literaly have no idea yet.

Regarding the Satin Peace Maker...
Your blade should look like the photos on our web page (see http://www.fehrmanknives.com/pm.htm). You are correct the finish is bead blasted. All our satin blades are hand "benched" to remove 95% of the grind and machine lines, after benching they are lightly papered, then blasted with glass bead. This leaves a bare metal, light gray, "satiny" smooth finish. Please let me know if you have any problems with it and I'll take care of it right away.

Best Regards,
Eric Fehrman

Eric, being that you're only a couple of miles away will you be attending the Cambridge show this weekend?

I'm probably going on Friday and would love to see your work first hand.

If not, any way to arrange a visit to your shop?
