Which would you pick?They're both about the same size.Both are 3V.Both about the same price.It would be used as a basic camp/hunting knife..ie:stripping bark,collecting firewood,cleaning fish & game,making snares,etc.

VS.
ZT0100:

Blade Length: 5 3/4 in. (13.6 cm), .190 in. thick

Features:

P.S.Sorry,can't figure out how to add pics:confused:

The ZT0100 has my vote. That could be because I already own one & have used it a lot. It's a great knife, but I'm really drawn to the Fehrman LC.Damn this steel addiction!!

never held a zero tolerance but it would be hard to rival the fit and finish of a fehrman as they are the best.

The ZT0100 is the best fixed blade I've ever owned, but I see what you mean about the Fehrman.I've made the decision to get the "Last Chance" within the next 30 days.I just love the 3V+I want to compare handle comfort with the ZT.

This being the Wilderness & Survival Skills forum, I'd go with the Fehrman Last Chance. Very comfortable handle, flat ground. The Ken Onion designed ZT100 looks nice, but not for wilderness use. YMMV

Fehrman actually refers to the steel as CPM F3V because of his own heat treatment. This makes his 3V steel different than Kershaws I suspect.

I prefer the blade shape of the Fehrman over the recurve of the ZT, but that's just me. The Fehrman blade shape is better for skinning and other utility chores.

Did I see that you already have a ZT 0100? How is the coating holding up?

I have a Last Chance coming any day now. I'll be posting a pic and intial impressions when I receive it.

I've had the ZT over 2 mos. now & literally put it through hell.Took it on 2 camping/fishing/hunting trips.I've chopped through 3" branches, used the handle to pound in tent spikes, made about a 1/2 doz. snares, opened up cans with it(I have a can opener, but what fun is that?),sheared bark, cleaned fish, etc. It's still shaving sharp(after a few strops on the leather)& not a single scratch on it.That coating is amazing!!

I haven't handled a ZT, but I have owned a couple Fehrmans and they are great knives.

Thanks,
good to know that coating is tough.

Now, about pounding tent stakes with the handle, ever hear of a rock?;)
Just kidding, it's your knife!

Of course Cliff could break either knife........

HAHAHA I was trying to beat the heck out of this knife, but it kept coming back for more,as if to say "is that all you got?";)
P.S. I usually use the blunt end of my hatchet for tent spikes

if you have not checked out the fehrman site in awhile you should because it has been updated with some new products including the hoodhunter and a knife combo package that looks great.

Always thought that Peacemaker was a slick looking knife... I already have several great 4" knives but another might not hurt too bad. :)

Fehrman. I have a first strike and it is an exelent knife. The last chance is just a more compact version, which I think may be even better.

After using the Fehrman Last Chance for a while I have a report.

The handle is very well designed. You can get about four hand positions with it. This knife has the best designed choil I've ever used. It's partial and doesn't sacrifice edge length, but really lets you choke up on the blade. Very controllable.

The ZT handle probably has a better initial feel, but is limited to really only one or two grip positions.

I still like the Fehrman blade design better than the ZT, but that's more personal preference than anything else. It just works better for what I want a knife like this to be used for.

The more I use this knife the better I like it. The quality and design is being revealed more and more. The only knife close to the quality of this one would be my Simonich. High praise indeed.

I'm kinda drawn to the Fehrman line, but have neither.

To post pics, look into a free Photobucket account. Just copy the "IMG code" and paste it into your message. Purty easy. Or upgrade to gold here. Or both.

I prefer the First Strike myself. In the smaller size knife I would also take a look around for a Busse BATAC.

Sorry, I know you probably don't want the waters muddied with more suggestions but I really like my BATAC.

Its another tough SOB and has similar dimensions to the Last Chance.
