Fehrman Peacemaker

Hey, cziv.

Here's what I found online...

That should be the ticket. Any finer and you'd have to get the white pad (I usually stop after the light-gray ultra fine). Check your local auto-parts store for some too.

Scotch Brite Blending Pads - Slightly finer abrasive than the heavy duty pad. Excellent for removing scratches on metal, wood, or synthetic surfaces. (Gray color)

Scotch-Brite General Purpose Hand Pad—This is the most popular Scotch Brite abrasive because it is coarse enough for cleaning and finishing but fine enough to produce good surface finishes. (Maroon color)

Scotch-Brite® Ultra-Fine Hand Pad— Fine textured for ultra-fine finishing or metal, wood, plastics, and composites. (Light Gray color)

Scotch-Brite Light Duty Hand Pad - A very mild abrasive for gentle, yet through cleaning. Commonly used with liquid detergent. (White color

bearcut,
Your thread was interesting read as I said, but as I read it in its entirety I should say it is interesting in many respects :D
Thanks for doing the comparo and for objective stance.
As for SAR-4 I agree with you completely. The knife is very well done with convex grind and very good geometry, but the small cutout is pretty much useless and I'd like to see it either [almost] non-existent (just for looks) or otherwise preferrably a good sized one to make it useful. Nevertheless, my SAR-4 is a user, while BATAC and ASH-1 are safe queens at the moment.
Fehrman Peacemaker is the most comfortable knife I ever had. It became my fav for around the house and I am sure will serve in this same role arpound the camp when time comes...And I am really warming up towards LC :)

I couldn't agree with you more regarding that "elf" choil on the Sar4. I think that if Busse put a USEABLE choil on it, I'd buy 5 of them....OR...in the alternative, if Fehrman made a knife size in between the Peacemaker and Last Chance, I'd get THAT one. I think the blade size of the Peacemaker is just a tiny bit too short, yet the Last Chance is way too big for my uses. I've got a BatacCG as a safe queen I'll be selling because it's just silly big and heavy, and it's only got the 3/16" blade! Gimme a SAR4 with a real choil or a slightly larger Peacemaker, and I'd be all over it!!

Yep, 5" blade is my preferred size too. However, the peacemaker has proven to be very capable and at the same time it is the most ergonomical knife I ever had partially due to smaller size and excellent geometry. I rarely do chopping with a knife, and have my .32" thick Busse's for that :D On every other front the peacemaker is the one I end up using and enjoying.

Heck, I don't even need 5 inches, just a solid 4.5" would suit me fine. The Peacemaker only has 3.5" not counting the choil, but the ergos look to be fantastic! Glad you're liking yours. I'll have to get one some day.

I wonder if grinding a slightly larger choil on the Sar4 would be an interesting experiment......

i've concluded this ferhman model will do about anything the hunter, camper, & hiker will face. this is the next ferhman i will order to try next deer season. although i have many good hunters i feel this one will allow me to get rough & tuff with the next hogs we drop.besides i know what my custom hunters & busses will do.

I once asked Tom Krein if he would do it (with a few more mods), but he was not too keen on taking this job :D

By request of a forumite I did a tomato peeling with the knife as you would do with an apple. It was very smooth and the knife had no issues of peeling very thin layers.

Then (after peeling) I cut it while eating my apple :)

No problem cutting very thin :)

I love this knife!

Thanks to a forumite who asked how my PM is doing :), I decided to post the update.
The knife has taken a use, with no issues staying in a perfect shape.
Bellow are pics of the knife taking some fire prep job

Once the work was done, I cleaned the blade with water and the blade came as clean as ever

with no edge degradation whatsoever. The knife is as sharp as it was. Great steel!

Gress.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

My PM. What a great little blade - helped me get a new walking stick. Heavily considering adding on a Shadow Scout.
