Good advice, considering the potential. I have (carefully) used a hand-powered drill.

Yeah I tried that first as I don't have a drill press; that didn't work out to hot for me though Luckily I have a friend who is a set designer for a local playhouse and I used her shop:thumbup:

How well do these 1/2" firesteels spark? I've seen some serious bad performing rods over time. There are a lot of good ones mostly, but I've seen some really hard to scrape rods, that don't produce a thick long lasting spark.....
