Ferrum Forge Septer

I have an NTAC and a Mini NTAC, both one offs and the quality is exceptionally high. they flip like absolute rockets and have vault like lock up in my opinion. I really like how they try to jam as much blade into them as they possibly can. the NTAC blade somehow manages to look larger than the frame which impresses me also. In my opinion the plainer looking knives tend to be easier to use and tend tostick out less in the "normal" public view, which i like. A fancy design can sometimes be intimidating and the last thing i need is to scare the crap out of my HR lady because i used a dagger or something crazy to open a package with. Getting extraordinarily high quality out of a simple design is something that makes me very happy. Im not a big fan of the curved nature of the Septer so i passed on the pre-order, but i will probably pick up one of the one-offs they will sell once the run is over. Elliot told me they werent all spoken for so im sure hes going to do some crazy stuff.

I've owned a Ferrum Forge knife and it was very well made, but I was shocked by the wimpy little pivot on an otherwise overbuilt knife. The roller bearing surface area diameter and the pivot diameter are really small compared to other hard use folders I have owned, including some with bearing pivots.

Why have a knife with a .19" thick blade and a .125" diameter pivot? I don't get it, and it makes me not want to look at their offerings, lol

For reference here's the one I owned...

I own a mordax and have had no issues with the pivot. Has it actually let you down yet, or are you just assuming that it will fail?

I'll say this much, if I'm ever using a knife so hard that the steel pivot breaks on me....Ill know my life went wrong somewhere:rolleyes:

From my experience, Ferrum forge makes one hell of a knife. Can't speak to this new one that he OP is referencing, but if it's anything like their other stuff it should be pretty damn good, even if it is a little plain. The mordax I have is not overly chunky but it's got a presence to it for sure, but the most important thing is that it still cuts well unlike many of the overbuilt fad knives of today. No need for an oversized pivot IMO because in all honesty, that's mostly just a gimmick. And if a job does call for it, then that role would be better filled by a fixed blade, axe, or pry bar.

to the op this knife isn't my favorite from Elliot that being said just personal taste if you like it go for it. On the pivot I have owned like 5-6 knives from ferrum forge only one wasn't used. I have not once have had any issues from the pivot. Only problem I have had was a lock bar broke off on my pretium which was his first large run knife they did, and ferrum forged fixed it. Of the other knives I have had after that had no issues and they were used significantly not just cutting paper.

That is an aggressively bland knife, without doubt.

The NTAC is what initially interested me in Ferrum Forge. The size and profile were just what I had been looking for. And then I noticed they had this model coming out. Right now I can't decide between the two. I prefer the shape of both the handle and blade, very slightly smaller size and cheaper price of the NTAP but the steel on the Septer is superior: 20cv vs. N690. I'm late to the titanium framelock knife as I prefer linerlocks but the few that I have (small Sebenza, Peace Duke, 0562, TRE) have grown on me.

Totally agree, the NTAC was the slightly aggressive yet very plain (sexy imo) design that fit the bill at right under 3'' blade, so it wouldnt be out of place in my office. I got 1/2 mini NTACs on a lucky break from Nalpak because i bought a regular NTAC but he had already sold it locally. Now i have one of the one off (Copper) NTACs and the Mini and honestly they are of a superior build quality in a big way. aboslutely love this knife. Just contacted Elliot about getting an 'unsold' septer configured for me, so Ill be getting the Black nano-ceramic coating on the blade- which i really love on the mini NTAC- milled clip, with a near black ano and gold hardware. its gonna look very sexy in my opinion and i cant wait to receive mine!!

He also told me that he will be making a fair amount of one-offs from the unsolds and selling them on his website and IG, so if you think the regular version is pretty bland, you can bet that they are coming out with some really sweet ones, theyve already showcased most of the Makers Choice and the hand work done on them is pretty spectacular looking, just not for me personally.

My son has an Archbishop and I have a Veloz. We both love our knives. I like the look of the Mordax better than the Sceptor.

I'm pretty excited to receive mine...!!! Looks incredible with the bronze ano under the deep blue! [emoji7][emoji7]

I agree 100%. I scribble better looking and edc friendly designs with my four year old. Sure it will be top quality but dang. Looks so generic.

Steel sounds nice.

That is an aggressively bland knife, without doubt.

CRC5, I like that one you got. Is it comfortable in the hand when gripping it?

ATJ, it is called the Contours scale model. I do not yet know how comfortable it is, he finished it and sent me those pictures last night!! It does look as though it would be very comfortable in the hand, though

Although I used to be a fan of theirs, they have really lost the ability to make anything different. All of their knives are basically cookie cutter productions nowadays. I will say that all of them that I have had have been centered/smooth/solid, but I am absolutely not interested in this knife.

Bummer that it is this way now.

The Septer is now available in limited numbers on Blade HQ. Here are some better photos of the Contours version:

The FFKW website has some with their "dark matter" finish. Looks good. I am gonna pass on the next couple designs, till something comes up I have to have.

Is that finger choil big enough for your finger?

Just barely not quite. If you choke up on your finger yeah maybe. My hands are not all that big

Actually after taking the photo it really wasn't all that small and it fit, but very snug. It works
