Ferrum Forge Septer

The choil seems too big to not use but too small to actually use. My finger is on top of about 1-2 mm of the cutting edge when using it so I considered having the choil extended by that much to make it more functional. I don't necessarily have a preference for finger choils but I love the knife and think that doing so would add to its functionality. Any thoughts?
 
They left the last tenth of an inch of the blade next to the choil unsharpened. This is not for me.
