Beautiful patch HWF.

I did some day hiking today with the family up in the North Georgia Mountains. We went first to Brasstown Bald Mountain (the highest mountain peak in GA) but when we arrived it was socked in by cloud cover with quite cool temps and windy/blustery conditions with poor visibility so we changed our plans and decided to go over to Vogel State Park (Blairsville, GA) where we hiked the Bear Hair Trail in the Blood Mountain Wilderness area which is also part of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.

FF- Woodsman for me :)
Wood Jewel- Carving Puukko for my daughter (6th grade)
Marttiini- Large Silver Carbinox for my son (7th grade)

Love it!

Did some more exploring with the patch today.

The infamous 3rd tunnel on Gold Camp Road. Supposedly haunted:

Spent the day out in the garage lining forge 2.0. Hopefully the smaller volume will get me what I'm looking for.

Man, I can't weld to save my life Looks like a glob fest. Does mig flux wire go bad? It was all sputtering and splattering.

Should be able to fire it up in a few days once the lining dries up a bit.

I would suspect the coating on that tank and the black pipe is giving you all the trouble. If the steel has a wax coating, you'll struggle to clean it off. Given all the blackening around the weld, I would say your steel just wasn't clean enough.

Not exactly an adventure because we make the trip every week but I guess every week brings a new challenge!
Love this view, can see our shack with reflective roof at the coast.

Are you two looking to adopt? I'm pretty self sufficient, it'd be like I'm not even there

Is a larger knife the preferred tool in than type of environment?

Hi Bob,

Pretty much yes. My most used knives are my 12" machete, comp cutters and cAmp knives. I carry a selection of 4" blades everyday, mostly Kepharts, but when I venture out of town i need a knife that can cope with hardwoods etc.

Hey Jules, nice weekly adventure you have going! No problem on the CT, it's the kind of thing we do around here, right :)

March 2017 - Another great 55 degree to hike the river. Madden and I even got to share the trail with our new Fiddleback friend PolRoger. Had a great time doing some hiking, talking knives and axes and swapping some good stories. BTW, the Hoffman bearded belt axe and BH play real well together.

Looks like you guys had a great day. I Love that OD Hermit. It could only get any better if it were on my hip.

I need to just buck up and get in line, a LH would fill some holes in the axe collection.
