I have just purchased my first of hopefully many knives from Andy Roy of Fiddleback Forge.
I signed up a couple of months ago for a special run of Woodsman knives that he was going to be making. Lucky me, I got spot #9 of 9
These knives were being crafted as Andy found the time and opportunity to get them done. Even with a day job and a family, he not only found the chance to get this run done in a timely manner, he also managed to keep us updated on his forum with status reports, pictures, and lengthy explanations to any and all questions. A couple of times a heat treat went sour, and Andy would let us know of any delays that might bring. He wanted to get the job done, but there was no way in hell that he was going to offer something that wasn't as perfect as he could make it.
Even with having a setback with his day job, he still managed to keep the Woodsman run going and updated us often.
I have never had such a great experience with a custom order. Fantastic workmanship, I really felt in the loop through the whole process, and the pricing is low for the level of fit/finish/performance. Oh, and did I mention that he not only did not require a deposit of any kind, he would not ACCEPT any money until the work was complete. On top of that, we were allowed to back out at anytime if we faced any economic hardship of our own.
I am 100% satisfied with my Fiddleback Forge Woodsman. The knife, the communication, the service. Top notch working with Mr. Roy. I liked it so much, I'm sticking him in my sig line:thumbup:
