Thanks to Andy and all Fiddleback Forge guys. I've had various hobbies "AKA addictions" and Fiddleback Friday is certainly the most fun buying processes I've had. Hope to try again next week.

Hey Ken....did you find out what the final situation was with the blued blades and "food"?

I don't have a definitive answer as of yet. Given the relative importance of it we didn't want to post an answer until we were sure. We're going to ask around and get more information. Generally, we felt that they are safe. It is an acid etch happening on the steel, and once the bluing has been removed and the reaction neutralized (with ammonia) - technically all that is left is an inert piece of steel. We wash them quite thoroughly here in the shop, and then apply rust preventative. It is not a surface 'coating' so there isn't anything to be removed onto your food. But we'd like to research it more and get a concrete answer that we trust and are comfortable with. From a safety perspective, as it stands now, we would have to say - "We don't know."

In the meantime we recommend Windexing your food prior to consumption. :barf:

HAHAHAHA. awesome.

Just a heads up for everyone, I put some oil on the blued camp knife last night and gave it a thorough wiping to see what would happen. Not a drop came off that thing. The towel was as clean as when I started. I think we're okay too. but I appreciate you checking in to it.

People must never had handled an asp.... They are awesome I have owned at least three! I would buy that ironwood one if I didn't value my marriage!

Yep been through four; kept the fourth. A while back I mentioned that a 5/32" swedgeless asp functions an awful lot like a kephart; just with a better handle design (IMO).

And #4. Might be a new record my friend. Thank you!

Unless you were using HCN as your acid and not cleaning it we should be safe :D
