Fiddleback Friday 1/24/14

Great batch Andy! The sharks are grabbing them fast of late.

I'm really surprised the Woodchucks are still here. What a great trio. I love how the spalting merges with the grind on the Model Standard one. And a Scandi! That's a rare one now. The striping on the Cocobolo is Sharp! Someone should grab these before I get in more trouble for buying yet another knife I shouldn't have today.

You're not alone man. If that model standard Woodchuck was guardless I'd be in trouble. I want one of those for my cook set when I am traveling out of town. Great dual role knife I think!

Andy Roy, I will be Better Prepared Next Time, :) Sincerely, Charles Grenier

Hi Charles,

Welcome to the Friday madness. I recommend that you go to Andy's website www.fiddlebackforge.com and read about the different model. The purchasing tab explains the base pricing and upgrade charges. It also lists five online dealers that have Fiddlebacks available for immediate purchase.

I have no doubt that you will be better prepared next time.

Phil

Great batch as usual! I got to hold and dream and drool over most of these Monday, they are all pieces of art! I must say, the RUNT was absolutely killer!

Lots of simply spectacular pieces in this one, the Bushboot is stunning, the ADI Hiking Buddy is gorgeous, the natural Woodchuck is awesome, just to name a few. But primarily I was utterly thankful to see M4's post I've quoted, because that one could have been a serious problem for me...a worse problem if it were tapered yes, but a major problem just as it was. I think that KE Bushie has one of the most beautiful handles I have ever seen.

I'll take:

2014 0123 013 – KE Bushie, Spectacular, Stabilized Box Elder Burl over nat canvas with a lime green g10 pinstripe, SFT Tang, Convex on 1/8” thick 3D Spalted 01 steel - $275

Man! The burl on that KE Bushie is crazy awesome. I don't know if I could bring myself to carry and use such a piece of art. That orange burlap is really growing on me though....

Is "SFT" mean = Shaped Full Tang?? In the Handle/Tang Description.
Skeletonized Full Tang - the metal that extends into the handle is drilled out to lighten the handle, providing a controlled balance to the knife. An alternative is to taper the metal down (i.e. the tapered tang) that will also lighten the handle.

Charles - I have started a glossary that will help you out that covers some of the key terms that get used in describing Andy's knives a lot. I have your email address from your comment on the Fiddleback Forge website, so I will shoot you an email tomorrow with the information. Eventually we'll have the glossary included on the site, along with some FAQs.

As an official "Senior Citizen" and admitted computer Tyro, I am curious to know something. How is it that I get the Official "Fiddleback Friday" post from Andy and there are already 20 guys with requests for their picks before I even get to the end of the list of for sale knives (less than one minute) It's not a huge deal as I was just looking today but this has been happening more and more lately If you can contribute a response that's not a Smart assed post, I'd be interested in hearing some thoughts on this!

if you look at the amount of traffic now........There are currently 37 users browsing this forum. (20 members & 17 guests)

and look during the afternoon on friday you will see a huge diffrence

ive noticed 80 -90 folks "waiting" for andy to post

edit..
hope thats not smart assed.....but thats the way it is...just look around 3pm on friday at the amount of users on here compared to now

andy has also opened a twitter account & posting on more social media....that could explain the up tick in users

It's only going to get worse. And I agree, I'd love it if it was more relaxed but it just isn't. And I'm one to blame...my name's been on the top of the 1st page a number of times on fiddleback friday. It's the only way you can get the knife you want now...because there's 10 other guys waiting all day to do the exact same thing.

It's the natural evolution of a sales model like this. Just like 'sniping' is how ebay operates now.

Not placing blame just asking questions. Do me a favor and look at the time Andy's post showed up on your system please! It just seems to me and a few others that talk offline that some of us don't get the post at the same time. This is the bottom line here...not how many people are waiting in the shark tank. That part I understand!

The last stage of this evolution is the Bob Kramer model. He doesn't do any direct selling, or custom orders. It's all done by lottery or auction, and the prices get crazy quick. Not sure Fiddleback will ever get there, just because of the numbers they are able to produce. Thank the good Lord for that anyway. What was that Will Rogers line, " nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."

I haven't witnessed a whole lot of the Fiddleback Friday's yet, but the one this week seemed exceedingly quick....

Adventure Sworn does it that way now too. he just sold two 'Classics' that both went for over $1000. He still offers a couple with the 'buy it now' feature (usually around $300). and that actually helps spread it around some because you have to go through the whole purchasing process right on the page for the knife. It kind of guarantees that you can only grab one...having to go through the whole paypal payment steps and such.

As to the 'different times it shows up'... that's a conceivable problem for people with slower computers or slower/problematic internet access or providers. But I'd bet a good chunk of money that everyone sees this thread was started by Andy at 2:19pm today.
