Fiddleback Friday 2/21/14

Rick Lowe ( ruger315 at charter dot net ) and Heber Ellsworth ( wildmanh at yahoo dot com ) are the two official sheathmakers.

I think there is not a way to make this kind of process totaly smooth. Still, I have fun with it, and hope you do to. Give me a call J. I'll make you an asp.

You are a fine gentleman Andy, I hope that he gets what he was looking for.

Sure wish my work schedule would allow me to be around for these Fiddleback Friday batches, this was a great batch, lots of awesome knives. Would love to have grabbed one of those Bushfingers. Congrats to hungry sharks!

You mean the teaser Bishops????? :D I'll take one....

We can neither confirm nor deny that some Bishops went through heat treat earlier this week.

I' ve a new favourite handle : Bocote on black canvas with black canvas bolsters and the Trinity pinout.

Wow

Netmastro

Yeah, that one came out pretty sweet. It's a little hard to tell sometimes how they're going to look in the end but that one was extra nice. And whoever gets those ironwood burls is going to be happy. We've got a few more pieces of that in the shop that will be showing up over the next couple of weeks.

American Classics Series –The Fiddleback Forge American Classic series consists of two models. They are the Kephart and Nessmuk. If I ever make a Bowie knife, then I’d add that one...

I think Andy just committed to making a Bowie. :D

this is for payments right fiddlebackpayments@att.net

Yes, that is correct!

It's really frustrating to log in a see the knife you want yet someone snags it first, fair game no foul. Log off and then come back to see the action and see the purchase withdrawn, and then snagged by someone else. Do we need to start asking to buy anyway so that we are next in line if the first buyers withdraws their purchase? Not trying to stir anything up here, it just seems that more and more members are snagging knives and then after thinking about it backing out. Given the way Fiddleback Friday works, it makes it really frustrating to me. Sorry Andy if this seems out of line but I think it needs to be said.

If there is a knife that you really want there is no harm in claiming it. If it gets sharked before you that is that, but if not, or if the person withdraws then you've got a good chance on it. Also, many of the posts are going up at the same time and you'll see where people win (or lose) by just seconds.

I think the system works great. There isn't a one year waiting list, Andy doesn't finish one knife and email 250+ people to see who responds with "I'll take it" first and hopefully it is the variant you wanted. Andy also offers his blades to several online retailers for the non-shark folk. On top of all that, he offers to try to work with people that just can't score what they're looking for. Things can be a lot worse man.

Everybody has the right to change their mind. Things happen: Not noticing insufficient funds in their paypal, bills, life, etc. After reading your comment, I "almost" feel bad that I was lucky enough that someone changed their mind and I called seconds and scored the Asp. If you see something you like, call "seconds" or Andy.

Respectfully,
Duder

Andy and Ken I can't wait to wrap my hand around that Woodsman, it looks absolutely awesome.
Cheers Mick

This is the kind of post that warms my heart. This Big Sneaky design is fun.

If you want to thank me, Andy, make another Big Sneaky with bolsters and some unreal wood with a good pattern to it, and give me first dibs on it.

Seriously, I have a Sneaky Pete and I have an Asp, but for me the proportions on the Big Sneaky are just right, in terms of blade : handle length and blade height : length.

Thanks Gordy -- tracking on that, but ironically I've been surviving (pre-FBF) on a just a spyderco, bow saw and leatherman in some pretty rough places. Despite me telling myself that I "need" a camp knife, chances are that my new Duke or Woodsman will meet or exceed my needs for just about anything I will encounter! Although... There's probably always going to be an open spot in the collection for a camp knife :D

I can not yet speak for the Duke, though I do hope to at some point soon, but I have both a Woodsman and a Camp, and due to the weight distribution handle length and shape, and blade geometry, the Camp can chop circles around the Woodsman. The Camp is a bit heavier yes, but with a tapered tang and high grind, it carries that weight very well.

Yes, I full height grind Camp Knife is AMAZING! AMAZING! I always carry one in my pack. I hammock camp and it is perfect for trimming limbs, then preparing the fire, then fixing dinner... what great all purpose knife! Actually I have others that can do that stuff also, the Camp Knife is just fun to use! It makes me smile!

My 12" Fiddleback Machete is going to have to serve this duty until I get a chance at a Camp. If plans come together, I'll be doing some winter camping up in the CO mountains in a couple weekends and get to test it out.

ETA: Coupled with any number of other Fiddlebacks that I can carry.

Payment has been sent for the 009 Nessmuk. As this is my first go-round with Fiddleback Friday what is the shipping schedule like? Can't wait to see the knife in person!

Nice knife, and good score. My limited (3 Fridays) experience is that knives ship on Tuesday priority mail. Depending on where you are, you should receive later in the week.

You will receive an email update when they are shipped out. Normally shipped out on Tuesday. For me they arrive on Friday most of the time, sometimes Saturday.

I guess I've always wanted to see what all the fuss was about them. I don't know that I will keep it but I didn't think I would like the hiking buddy and it's my favorite right now!
