Andy,

I have 2 bolstered Fiddlebacks... I have the yellow and green Gaucho and my very 1st Fiddleback was a bolstered Bushfinger. I got it used on eBay. Had never seen one of your knives before that. I got it in hand and BAM. That Bushfinger had so much personality and character, full of positive energy. There is nothing like a Fiddleback Bushfinger!

That blue Asp looks like a mini Sneaky Pete! :)

Thank you, Andy!

That bolstered asp is tempting me.... I will overcome though. I have an odd question, but could you hold my knife for me for a bit Andy? I won't be home for about three weeks due to holiday travels, if this is inconvenient or not possible it's ok as well

Damn, what a batch of knives! All of the wood in the Hunter and Dukes looks amazing, the Hunter in particular! The Osage Woodchuck looks superb as well. The ADI Bushcrafter has me rethinking my thoughts on wooden handles after a conversation with a friend in the PNW. But holy crap I think that bolstered Asp may be the most bad ass looking knife I have seen in a long time, and I get to play with a lot of bad ass knives. It would likely just get me in trouble here, because if I had it I'd definitely carry it. BUT if I were about to head out into combat or an apocalyptic landscape, that would be the ideal small knife I'd want with me!

No worries bro. He can send it here ;)

Mist, what do you think of 1/8" knives doing camp chores? I know you seem to prefer 5/32" for all around.

Mist, what do you think of 1/8" knives doing camp chores? I know you seem to prefer 5/32" for all around.

I tend to prefer 5/32 on knives with blades lengths of 4 to 5 inches, just to have the extra mass for lighter chopping or snap cutting small twigs and such. With both being convex, I think chopping and lateral stress are really the only areas where 5/32 has any real advantage over 1/8 in smaller blades. As far as other camp chores go; cutting, slicing, whittling, carving, what have you, the 1/8 does easily as well as 5/32 and surpasses it in some areas like slicing. Also, in my opinion the convex 1/8 is much better at truncating in hard woods than the 5/32 or 3/16. I've had the chance to handle one of Andy's 4-inch blade in convex 1/8 and SFT tang. I think the 1/8 is perfectly fine as long as any chopping concerns are handled by a heavier tool.

Mist,

Which is lighter in 1/8" SFT or tapered tang?

I can't answer that accurately yet. I haven't handled two of the same model done in these ways yet. The actual weight difference isn't going as great as the difference in weight distribution though. The tapered tang, even if it weighs the exact same overall, will be lighter in the pommel end and have a blade-heavier balance point. I know that in one case in particular a 1/8 SFT Recluse is more handle heavy than a thinly tapered 5/32 Recluse.
