I recently was honored by my friend Kismet, when he asked me to start making his Practical Hunter. This knife has been made by Himilayan Imports Khukuri Company for some time, and will now be made at Fiddleback Forge! Its a really interesting design, and just a lot of fun to make. My version is 8" OAL with a 3 7/8" long blade.

This one is wearing GLOW in the dark green yarn micarta from Shadetree Phenolics, and has a black liner, black pins, and black bullseye filler! $225 for the knife with a JRE sheath.

Cool! How thick is the blade, and what kind of grind? (I know you usually do a convex grind.)

There is a swedge. Its a convex grind.

I just finished an order that used that handle material. It is cool stuff. I kept holding it up to the light then walking into a dark room to watch it glow...my daughter liked it too.

I looked around a little bit on the net, but didn't have any luck finding out where to get some of that green yarn Micarta. I noticed that Shadetree Phenolics hasn't posted here on BF since '08. Where could I find some, or is it not available any more?

Thanks!

He posts here under the username "fod" - hope that helps!

Andy I love this design and handle material!!! Wish I had the funds to take it off your hands. Interested in doing any trading for this one?

I can't do any trading right now.

To acquire the yarn micarta, get with FOD here on BF. He is the proprietor at Shadetree.

Would you post a picture of the top of the blade -- I'd like a better view of the swedge? I'd have loved to have gotten that Massaccar Ebony KPH with the wide swedge you had leftover from Blade, but I missed it. Nothing wrong with this one; the blade is probably stronger for not having that grind, but those wide swedge versions are dramatic.

I first read your posts and saw your leather work on another forum. I have enjoyed watching your skills grow over the last few years while I have been here on bladeforums. You have come a long way Andy and make some really fine looking blades.

I should finish making a sheath for it on Monday. I'll try to get additional pics then.

I would love to have a knife like that on my elk hunt next week. great looking blade. wish I had the funds right now.
