Fiddleback on Tap Saturdays

They are great for the chain, but I use some Bahco files for axes when not around a belt sander;) Most hard files should work fine. A 1x30 sander with good belts is a lot faster and you can get a mirror edge on them with fine Trizac belts:D

Gotcha, yeah, I did see some Bahco files before, maybe I'll give that a try. I personally try to stay away from sanders as 1. I'm not skilled with them, 2. Kinda prefer old school methods as I find the work relaxing, and 3. worried I may impact the temper (I guess this goes back to number 1, I know it can be done but don't have the prior skills/experience). Thanks for the reply!

I like taking my time and doing things manually (like using chainsaw files instead of a Dremel and jig), but sometimes I have less time than work and then a grinder is great for axes. Up in the mountains there is only 12V from the solar power system so everything is manual. On the farm there is an old rotary wet stone which I sometimes use on scythes, but no on axes. I always do the chainsaw chains and Fiddlebacks manually though ;)

With a bit of practice and good belts there is very little heat with a grinder if you go a bit slow and don't force it.

good stuff nofair, it's my dream to one day have a rotary wet stone :) yeah, i'll have to give the belts a try one of these days, for now, as I maintain equipment just for weekend excursions and stress relief, manual work does it for me. Must be awesome where you live, visited Norway about 8 years ago, did the train ride from Oslo to Bergen for the sognefjord boat ride. The nature was AMAZING.

My favorite shot from the trip (I call it the Scandinavia Dragon ^>^):

Very nice picture:thumbup:

My grandfather lived in Bergen and I've done a fair bit of hiking in the mountains and diving in the ocean around there.

Lake by the mountain cabin:

I work a bit in Lofoten further North. Will try to do some more diving there as well

that's epic man! the closest I got to Lofoten was wearing the Lofoten line of ski clothes by Norrona :D Must visit Norway again....

The whole Lofoten series from Norrøna is great so no worries:cool:

Not too expensive to go there either (I work on the outer Isles every year)

Gotcha, yeah, as much as I love bushcraft/woods, my primary passion is skiing (nothing gives me such sense of freedom and thrill). So I'll definitely have to go back to Norway. Yeah, the only really expensive stuff I remember in Norway was the food. Even back then (I think it was like 2006 I was there, maybe 7), but I paid like 40 USD for a medium pizza :) peppes I think it was. Oops, carried on too long here digressing, I'll stop now :D

It's fall, so that means New Belgium's Lips of Faith series is out. This time it's a Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout. Yummy.

A little late for Oktoberfest, but I'll be enjoying this tonight. Happy Halloween all. Be safe out there.

Ah some of Avery's finest; very nice Nathan! Here's a little something vintage out of the 'ol beer keeper this evening!

Cheers

I had a very nice woodsman and decided it was more knife than I needed but that one has turned me back for more. I love Nathan's too. I should have held on to mine. Oh well.

I was hoping to post this with a Monarch, but seeing how I was like the 6th person to call it today, I'll just post it with the Camp Nessie which is king in my book.

Your Camp Nessie is definitely fit for a King Nathan.......one of these days I'm going to be fortunate enough to snag one of these. Almost went after the wood handled one today, however, I believe I'm going to hold out for one dressed in Shadetree. If only Electric Orange was an available option.

Those both look good brother.

I'm not a Nessie guy, but that piece is pretty choice.

Cheers!
