FiddlebackFriday - 3/1/13

#14 looks nice, I hope to see a better side profile of that one. Congrats to the winner!

Hello Andy,
Beautiful batch again. I would like to take the 2013 0301 11 – Bushfinger, Osage Orange over natural canvas with a blue pinstripe, Tapered Tang, Convex on 5/32” thick steel - $290 if it is still available.
Regards,
Guido

You got it Guido. Thanks!

Thanks Schmittie. Doing fine.

Andy, that Kirinite is really growing on me.

Glad to hear you're doing better too. Kirinite has my attention for sure right now. I'm having fun with it.

I had one with micarta and lost it. The 1/8" ones are tough to grind.

It wasnt micarta w/orange stripe was it? Say it ain't so! Say it ain't so!

Seriously though, what does 'losing it' mean? Could a full height be made out of it?

Kal el,
I took a 2x4 swung baseball style to the forehead- hurts but it is the hardest part of your head ;) Glad to hear you will be OK.

What that means is that I chased the sabergrinds up each side, going back and forth trying to get them even. I get frustrated as time spent builds up and the end game approaches. The end game is the full height grind, which is incredibly hard to nail with convex. So you get there and that doesn't go well either and the knife goes into the wall of shame. This weeks was nat on nat with an orange pinstripe and I lost it on the last day doing one of the very final steps.

I'll take it.

Oh, I see what you mean. Sorry bro. That sucks for that to happen on the last step. But it's impressive that you don't bend your own standards and routinely offer subpar knives. My hats off to ya.

Ok, now this one really hurts! You sure know how to cut to the heart. Why, WHY did I even bother asking?!? It's like I'm trying to torture myself. And why do I always fall for that combo? I STILL think about the Recluse dud you had a long while back. I think it was the same combo too. Maybe that's it! Your white whale is nat can over nat can with an orange stripe! Lol

I'll take it.

Hey Lou, sorry to say, I'm pretty sure this one was grabbed yesterday.

Nice batch Andy! I love that red oak. Is it me or are you taking your grinds to a higher grit lately? Maybe its just the photos.

Hey Lou, sorry to say, I'm pretty sure this one was grabbed yesterday.

I hope that knife is taken, I have paid for it.

Andy, would you please verify that I have this knife and that you have the money. I'd just like to avoid a mix up.

Thanks

Jack

Pretty sure you got it Jack. Andy posted right after your post that you did.

Mistwalker:
I’m not particularly worried about it. This “Fiddleback Friday” concept seems a bit chaotic but I can find no evidence that anyone has ever been unhappy. However he does it, Andy does seem to be able to keep it all straight.

It’s great fun; daydreaming about what you want then waiting for Friday to see if it comes out. Hitting the refresh button all morning... I could see how this could get addictive.

Nicely put, and welcome aboard :)

Ratz. Somehow I missed page two of this thread where you (Jack) said that you'd take it. I was surprised that the knife was still available since, due to a previous commitment, I was unable to be there when the "Friday" post first went up. I phoned Andy to see if the knife was, indeed still available and he said (now I know that he did not have computer access at the time) that it still was. So I posted the "I'll take it" message.

Sorry for any confusion or angst I caused. I'll read more carefully next time. I was secretly hoping that there was something going on "behind the scenes" and that the knife was still available. But those hopes did not prove out. Enjoy the knife Jack!

Andy can you refund my payment please? And see what you can do about making another 1/8" convex this coming Friday please. Maybe a couple of them since I hear that there are a few of us looking for them. LOL.

The Bushfinger, "Honduran Rosewood over black with a lime green pinstripe, Tapered Tang, Convex on 1/8” thick steel" arrived today. I’m stunned at what a beautiful piece of work it is. I bought it with the thought that I don’t care what it cost, I’m still going to take it out in the woods bash the heck out of it; it’s a tool after all. Now that I’m holding it in my hand it’s so sublimely beautiful that I’m not sure I will be able to treat it like an ESEE or even a Bark River. I have a KE Bushie, that is a wonderful knife, but it does not inspire the kind of reverence that this knife does and I feel no compunction about smacking it with a baton. This Bushfinger is so wonderful that I’m afraid to even leave it in the kitchen because my Wife might put it in the dishwasher.

To all of you who wanted a 1/8” taper tang saber ground Bushfinger, sorry but I’ve got it and I’m not parting with it. Another my come up, but this one is going to my heirs.

Jack

Can't ask for nicer words than that. Use the knife though. It'll age prettier and prettier, and have stories to tell those generations to come.
