fighting knife of choice

Think the Benchmade Boguszewski spike is any good as a "defense folder?" I really like this knife..

best defensive "knife"?

a good solid medium weight crowbar with a sharpened tip. with the right grip & balance, it has 4x the reach of your opponent's knife, with the added advantages of head smacking & bludgeoning. there are even some high tech versions in titanium!(mission knives eat your heart out)

most of those protracted steven segal type knife fights are myths. it is the first guy to have the quick sucessful thrust into the KZ who wins...even a good sharp pencil might do.

but if it is to maim, disarm and deter, then i must defer the presentation of such martial sciences to my more golden tongued peers...

some might say that a 150 dollar "defensive" knife is only as effective as the person who wields it.

discipline, training, efficient application, and improvisation are key in surviving the back alley or parking lot dance; with or without a knife.

i trained for a number of years where we utilized anything from garbage can lids to shovels, what ever was at hand. amazing what one can find to defend one's self from a box cutter or broken bottle attack. we should be careful in placing false confidence in a defensive tool that "looks" lethal (ala spike), instead of practical knowledge.

i still like the spike though, one of my first auto's 7 years ago; stays in the display case...

face the facts kids...its whatever is at hand. PERIOD. and remember....dont ever take a knife to a gun fight...

Hey I did overlook the idea of a pencil, but PM is right. Dr. Gyi came to my little neck of the woods one November morning and spent some time detailing how one might implement things like a sharp piece of wood to ... He described something along the lines of a Filipino widow in WWII during occupation by Japanese and her desire to avanege her family, and a technique Dr. Gyi called "Uncle Dick". The bad man never knew and the technique went unnoticed due to subterfuge. The bad man's troops thought he fainted. desperate times, desparate measures...

hey, lemme use a brick wall, I don;t have to pay a dime for that. I wonder how much body-work I can pay for for my Nissan for $150.00

well I cannot really carry anything bulky Campus Security are dicks! so all I carry is a spyderco rescue and a cold steel mini pal

well you cannot stab with it but you shure as **** can slash with it. I also carry a Columbia River Knife and Tool stiff kiss (under a sweatshirt it is nearly invisible)
well I mean you cannot see a silout (now if I could only spell)

but I also need some good cheap ones too

how is the punk scene where you are at?

Roadkill,
The Benchmade Spike has no finger guards that I know of. I would be concerned with my hand sliding forward onto the blade. Plus I'm not sure how well you could slash with that blade design. I have a friend who has one, and it is a very nice knife. I believe they have been discontiuned, so ya better get one while you can.

Blades

Fighting knives are of limited use. I tend to prefer the knife at the end of my ar-15..

I think Budman has the right idea here!

Make mine an HK53A3, but forget the bayonet!

I agree with Blades. The Spike is in my opinion the prettiest Benchmade yet made, but not a good defensive folder. It has little slashing potential, no guard at all, and the blade is notoriously fragile. It is basically a shank - stick it in, break it off, and leave. Aside from its beauty and limited utility, it is more a knife for committing dirty deeds than defending yourself from them.
