Fighting thru injury , pain , and reduced function !

OOF! Looks like you took a solid shot to the schnozz judging from the double shiners. I hope you're okay!

Thanks for the concern and support ! ☺️

Wasn't my purpose to cause alarm . I should have explained in more detail , but had some chores needed doing .

The accident happened 4 days ago , so no critical concern at this point .

Mostly out of the woods and on the heal .

Just look like I got punched, a pretty good one , straight in the schnozzola ! 👃

(That's supposed to be a nose ! ) 😁

I believe that violent emergencies have many similarities to SD/HD .

In fact SD/HD is a just subset ,or special type, of violent emergency .

So , I will attempt to discuss themes relevant to Prac/Tac ...eventually ! 🫡

So what happened???
Welp...to make a long story somewhat shorter, and without a lot of irrelevant detail and excuses : (* see note/ warning below )

I was out working late ,after dark, on our POS "DR Field & Brush Mower" . Got into a big hurry to finish up . Tired , hungry , angry etc .

Got sloppy and careless . Tangled my feet in something , maybe the electrical cord for the shop vac ?

Lost balance , feet still trapped . Pitched head first over a low retaining wall, and down into a ~4' lower level .

Did a one point landing , nose dive / face plant , smack into the gavel . Did break my fall somewhat on hands and forearms .

Knocked me silly (sillier) , but not unconscious . Smashed my nose and tore my glasses off . Knocked off my ball cap and headlamp .

My nose was gushing blood from both nostrils . I couldn't think straight or see very well . Very disoriented !

I managed to stand up , lean my head back and put some manual pressure on my battered schnoz .

Stopping the flow from nose , just rerouted the blood down my throat , at first .

Had a very bad moment ,near panic , until I remembered that: I'm no longer taking Xarelto (which I had to for several years , and prior to any reversing agent being available ) .

Managed to realize, I was not going to bleed out , due to blood thinner ;and needed to calm the F down . Lower my BP , HR , etc .

Resorted to some old tricks , learned long ago , to feel and project : confidence , control and calm , during any emergency .

Retrieved my cap , glasses and headlamp (Fenix HM61R) , still working and shining bright . Holding pressure on the nose with one hand . Got to the house .

Alerted my wife , >40y RN experience . Much of that in ERs . Together we handled the nosebleed and decided to forego the ER trip .

Got the bleeding stopped pretty quick with pressure and cotton plugs .

She finally got to sleep that night ,after cleaning up , but I did not . My neck , shoulders , hands and arms , were too painful to sleep .

I was a bit worried about some kind of longer term nerve damage or ? Happily , that all resolved over the next few days .

Them shiners did ripen up, eyes don't feel the best yet , and the nose still bleeds a bit sometimes .

But nothing alarming . Prognosis is excellent, for a full recovery ! :)

* sorry ... That turned out to be a pretty long story , after all ! 🥱

Be sure to drink plenty of water. Your body needs it whenever you damage a lot of tissue. Weight lifters learned this a long time ago. You need to flush that stuff out.
Yup ! 🫡

Really , we're kinda both health nuts , especially the wife . On top of standard medical degrees /training , especially me ! 🤓
So , even just normally , we do the hydration / electrolyte thing . Probably overdo ! Nutritional supplements and diet /exercise etc .

We are old . Gotta put some effort in, just to stay healthy and strong enough to maintain our rural lifestyle . 🤠

Also , gotta learn to be more careful ! 🤕

Glad you are on the mend. Accidents like that can turn out really bad as you know. Very glad you are off the thinner!

One trick your wife may not know (and may find amusing) for really bad nose bleeds not controlled by pressure alone and if away from ‘nasal tampons’ is packing the nose with sugar. A Voodoo practitioner in the Dom Rep showed us years ago. Works great and when you look at some of the pricey things used in the hospital to stop bleeding, many are cellulose.

For those who do not know, Afrin sprayed on cotton balls shoved up the nose works well as a vasoconstrictor along with pressure.

Heal up and stay safe!

Actually , very mild nosebleed is something occasionally occurring for my wife for many years . Probably related to allergy and all the mowing and yard work .

M95 mask helps , but annoying in hot/ humid weather, to work in for long .

I've hardly ever had a serious nosebleed ...ever ! IIRC , in a few fights as a kid and handful of times sparring . Never bled so much before , externally at least .

Of course , I was never this dang old before , either .

My plan is to not get hit, or ram my own nose into the rocks again ...ever ! 👃

That sounds like a good plan!

Some ERs still keep cocaine in stock specifically to treat persistent nosebleeds. So . . .

Wow that had to be scary. Get well soon.

I had an incident of my own Saturday evening. In pajamas and socks I slipped coming in my back door and did the splits. Dislocated my left hip. When you're sitting on the floor and looking at your leg sticking out 90 degrees to your left it's a bad bad feeling. Could not get up to save me even with help from the wife. First ambulance ride ever to ER. Into a room right away to wait and wait for a Dr. and some pain meds. Got 100 ug of Fentanyl which I could not tell did a thing. X rays confirmed what we already knew, posterior disocated hip. Finally got some morphine which did help. Sedation then and when I woke up things were a lot better. Got home about 3:00 AM.

So now I've got a few weeks of highly restricted duty and a knee splint which sucks big time. Trys to fall down constantly. I had the idea of using a spare belt through top strap around the belt on my waist helps a lot with keeping the splint in place. The healing process according the the internet machine is about 3 months for full recovery. This 71 year old man does not need any more of this.

I need to patent the splint holding in place system. Simple but really works.

Yeah, that's a likely explanation. Grass pollen is a very common allergy. You can have allergy tests done if you haven't yet. There are also allergy shots to help, but I think they only last for a certain number of years and then your allergies go back to normal. There might also be some pills you can take (not antihistamines). They work like the shots.
