Fighting thru injury , pain , and reduced function !

That's something I've always avoided .

Just moderate caffeine intake can sometimes make me a bit "excitable" . 🤯

They'd probably have to dart me with extra strength "special K ". 🤪

Not my idea of fun .

I've used it to restrain lab animals many times , but was shocked to learn that people would take Ketamine for recreation . 😵

Dislocated my left hip.
This 71 year old man does not need any more of this.
That's rough ! My problems are trivial in comparison . Hoping and praying for your complete recovery and future avoidance of injury .

It's really important to return to being mobile , on your own two feet . Don't push too hard , but never give up either !

Yeah ,old age is not for the faint of heart . Especially difficult for those of us who have lead physically active lives and don't do well without being able .

Thanks. My prognosis is for full recovery.

And about rough. It must be a bit of a deal to put the hip on 6'1" 250 lb. man who normally walks maybe 10 - 12 miles per week back in joint. They definitely had me surrounded with big guys when they put me out. 😲

I'm doing well now. Was up walking about 90 minutes yesterday which I tolerated well but was sore at bedtime. So cruising a little easier today.

Lost balance , feet still trapped . Pitched head first over a low retaining wall, and down into a ~4' lower level .
Double YIKES!! You are soooo lucky. There are 50 ways that could have ended so much worse........

You really had a narrow escape. 🙏🙏🙏

socks I slipped
My dearest , retired from 40+ RN experience , (much in ERs, basically running the show) had some pithy , drill sergeant like comments, about this form of footwear being dangerously inappropriate . Perfect hindsight , she has .

She lectured me for several minutes ,about just how many serious injuries ,she had treated ,resulting directly from high heels and slippery soles , etc .

Old people &/or balance problems etc . especially need to have good traction footwear . All the time .

And home ain't safe anymore either . Slippery shower stalls , bathtubs ,wet bathroom floors etc . Deadly !

Everywhere is a freaking minefield now . Need grab rails etc everywhere . Ramps are also appreciated . :)

When you get injured you go into shock. When you go into shock you normally get a few pain free seconds to react, self rescue, put pressure on the cut, tuck your broken arm in your collar etc.

If you can, those few seconds before the misery kicks in can be really important.

I've never used any recreational drugs other than alcohol, and I stopped that completely about a month past my 18th birthday.

I used to be a prodigious consumer of caffeine, but I stopped that on March 8, 2022 . . . cold turkey!

Keep healing and good luck with your recovery!

I've taken falls similar to DocJD's, but I can't imagine the horror of what happened to you. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery as well!

When I first moved up to Alaska, it was the middle of winter and bitter cold. A patient got transferred to our ICU after a slip on the ice. He had gone out to check the mail in pajamas and slippers because it was going to be quick. Well he slipped in the driveway and broke his hip. He couldn’t get up or go anywhere. He did not survive.

Falls in kitchens and bathrooms happen all the time and are a terrible mix of slippery and hard places to hit.

Let the drill instructor nurse you back to health (don’t argue with her🤣).

You probably should have it looked to see if the broken nose needs to be reset. Hope it heals fast, AFTER that is done!

You'll be right...you'll laugh about it down the track....any permanent tooth damage? Aaah the sage of bikeboy comes to mind.

4 days ago , I fought the Law... and the Law WON !

The Law of Gravity !

Stupid accident , entirely my fault . But lessons to be learned here .

More to say on this . Lots more .
Oh man! That looks painful! Hope it heals up completely and soon.
Wow that had to be scary. Get well soon.

I had an incident of my own Saturday evening. In pajamas and socks I slipped coming in my back door and did the splits. Dislocated my left hip. When you're sitting on the floor and looking at your leg sticking out 90 degrees to your left it's a bad bad feeling. Could not get up to save me even with help from the wife. First ambulance ride ever to ER. Into a room right away to wait and wait for a Dr. and some pain meds. Got 100 ug of Fentanyl which I could not tell did a thing. X rays confirmed what we already knew, posterior disocated hip. Finally got some morphine which did help. Sedation then and when I woke up things were a lot better. Got home about 3:00 AM.

So now I've got a few weeks of highly restricted duty and a knee splint which sucks big time. Trys to fall down constantly. I had the idea of using a spare belt through top strap around the belt on my waist helps a lot with keeping the splint in place. The healing process according the the internet machine is about 3 months for full recovery. This 71 year old man does not need any more of this.

I need to patent the splint holding in place system. Simple but really works.
You just never know. At 73 I find myself being a lot more cautious, but all it takes is one little slip. Hope you heal up completely and quickly.
