FIL throws his leek in the trash!

I'll admit it has been a few years since I was last at Disneyland, 2001. But what are they doing now, using a metal detector, strip searching? In all the many times I have been there, I have always had at least two knives on me.
Last time I had two Benchmade AFCKs on me, one in each front pocket. We had a five-day pass, and I had them every one of those five days.

Anyways, as for the Leek being tossed. It is not much of a knife to me, I gave the one I had away after the srpring broke before I even had it for a year. I have no use for knives, or anything else for that matter, that are unreliable. If I had not given it away, it would be in a landfill already.

Seeing who I gave it to, it probably is!:D

It is different for it to be in a drawer, at least there somebody someday may use it. Thrown away nobody ever will.
If he felt it wasn't worth the trouble to try to keep, he could have at least gave it away to somebody leaving.

I'm willing to bet money that the guard dug it out, and is probably carrying it today!

Are you suprised? This is post 9/11 America remember? We are all potential terrorists now. Us regular folks can't be trusted with something sharp when we enter an amusement park. It's for our own good, duh!

It is not that bad really. I have been since 2001 and all they do is a quick "look in" your bags/ purses and ask you if you have anything dangerous. If they spot your pocket clip they would probably let you know that you cant have a knife and ask you to remove it.

It has always been that way as far as I know, even before 9/11. I have never been there in the pre-1990's.

I went to Disneyland last year in April and walked right in with a BM Stryker clipped in my pocket, nobody said a thing the entire two days we were there either.

Somebody else really could have enjoyed that. It's just one of those moments.

It's not that it's terribly inconvenient, it's the lack of trust coupled with the assumption that anybody carrying a dangerous item poses a threat which simply is not true. When my dad was a kid he brought a swiss army knife on planes all the time, but did he ever hijack one? No. The authorities think that it's okay to sacrifice our privacy in exchange for fallacious promises of security, and that is NEVER okay, no matter how little it may seem.

makes me think twice about buying my (future) FIL a knife.
actually he gave me a chinese folder that had the foundation he belongs to stamped on it...NWTF. i promptly placed it in the top drawer. You know, kinda like a safe queen ;)

Not that bad eh? This coming from someone who names himself "The Government".

I had my first Axis Lock break on my 530 within 6mths of purchase...unlike Kershaw, they never returned my calls or fixed it, so I had to buy one to get my knife working again.

Leeks have a solid track record, no need to bash. Plenty more of those in pockets than all BM's combined.

Doo-doo occurs.

BTW, you wont catch me trashing Benchmade, they make good stuff. But nothing is without fault.

i was at disneyland just last week, had my Spyderco Urban In pocket, put it in the little bin thingie at security, grabbed it right back out after i went through the detector, not even a hitch

I always carry a folder with me no matter where I go, the trick is just don't let them know you have it. ;)

Yes, I slipped my folder(s) into my pockets at the gate, and clipped them back on after passing through. As to this FIL... geesh.:thumbdn:

What detector? I was at Disney World with my family back in Nov. and they didn't have anything like that. Just a bag check at the gates looking for glass bottles. I also had a large pocket knife with me for 5 days, no problems. Maybe Kalifornia is different than Florida.

So they do have metal detectors now?
Here in Oklahoma City there is Frontier City,
owned by Six Flags, as is Magic Mountain.
I have no trouble carrying a .45 Kimber through the
entrance. They have no detector, do not search you period.

Remind me why I moved out of Kal-E-Forn-I-A in 2002.;)
