I think I'd like a set. Is the steel rock hard and fairly file resistant? Do they work fine with small blades too, or do folks usually get smaller sets for them?

They're heat treated full hard and do resist a file. Personally I use a smaller guide which I make also. I can't imagine ever needing a 2" ricasso on any knife I'm making...but the big ones have been requested by the majority of the people. more versatility I suppose, like angled guards. I have the smaller ones made too (1 1/2"), PM me if you're interested.
